On the one hand, happy the underdog and “Cinderella” team made it to the semis
On the other hand, cyah bring myself to truly support Afghanistan and what that country stands for……especially how they officially treat women
Compounding it all is one of my favourite cricketers, DJ Bravo, is a coach with Afghanistan.
Still……on principle….i cyah support them.

Are there laws different to any other Muslim country?
In reply to imusic
Was just watching a video of them dancing to Bravo's Champion on the bus and I couldn't help but wonder about the fact that music is banned in Afghanistan. Maybe this will spur a little bit of change?
In reply to methodic
Morocco, Dubai, Egypt etc are Muslim countries
You see them banning girls from school beyond sixth grade?
They have laws against unwed women working and seeking health care.
So yes……their laws are quite different to other Muslim countries, particularly when it comes to women.

Just like some of our players don’t necessarily live in the region and spend more time abroad than at home, perhaps some of their players don’t even live in Afghanistan.
It would be nice, but I highly doubt that any success the cricket team has will effect any positive change in Afghanistan.
Is de Taliban we talkin bout
Absolutely right...ICC going soft on Afghanistan...compared to what happened with Zimbabwe... unfortunately cricket needs Afghan story for publicity...
There is no way Afghanistan must be playing international cricket given the fact that 50% of its population designated as second class....
at least there is still Polly and bravo!
eng v afg what will happen then? if you torn now.

I don't think they'll go any further than the semis.
They made it with just two batters and a good bowling attack.
Happy Aussie is out.
I want India to win

Stay safe on this MB!

Doh worry, playing the semis at home in Guyana, expect massive support and their "President" being the leading chair leader
Congratulations and good luck- this Indian team will be hard to beat, who wants WC need to beat them- team of the tournament thus far, they steam rolled every team that came their way.

Could you support pakistan if it was them in the semis instead of afghanistan they are only slightly better .
It is not farfetched for Afghanistan to win the whole thing from here.
Their bowlers can inflict a lotta damage and restrict totals and put fear in batsmen..especially when they bowl first. Pooran had theair measure when they played us but that was a bit of an anomaly.
Afghan is too dependent on the opening batsmen. I would be frighten for them in a chase. I think they need to bat first as they have a superb wicket taking bowling attack

How are you doing

Some of the people that push a progressive smile still cause some of the most oppression on earth. Just saying.
Cricket is an exposure of their talents and people to the world and it will help them in someway.
How women in Afghanistan are treated by their government is similar to how blacks were treated by the South African government during apartheid
Maybe Allyuh too young to understand that period in history, but I am proud to say that the West Indies, as a region, stood on principle regarding that matter.
It is why those players that went to South Africa during that time received such severe backlash from most of the region.
This is similar. You can make as many justifications as you like. Your choice.

Some days are better than others, I just need to spend quality time, doing the things I enjoy doing.

I also remember it an glad you mentioned there was a severe backlash from "MOST"of the region....but one country stood head an shoulders above the rest in their condemnation an subsequent actions...an another was the complete opposite ...won't mention names ...if yuh know yuh know!!!

I understand your stance and this has bothered me all this time as well. I like the Afghanistan team and their players but their Government's unfair treatment of Women is disturbing and downright unacceptable. I believe the Taliban adopts the Sharia Law which is an extreme version of the Muslim faith. Australia has declined to take part in any bi-lateral series with Afghanistan for the same reason but do these bans really work? Is isolationism the answer? I mean is it not better to allow their players to play so to probably expose them to more inclusive cultures which may change their perspective and perhaps lead to them becoming advocates for change back home? After all these are influential and wealthy men.
Is it not ironic that you have post-apartheid South Africa vs apartheid Afghanistan?
I supporting South Africa.
looked at another way maybe they are inspiring a lot of youths who might have or would take another path?
who would be upset if SA takes the title - they really deserve one man

if your want to truly not support the oppression of women and children you have to live off the grid.
