Looks like they are under rating this unproven WI squad which
is lacking in English playing conditions.smile

That squad is almost unrecognizable. Let's hope our players are sufficiently prepared to face English conditions and humble the colonials

Dont know a lot of these players .woakes always looks better in english conditions than out side.the old boy anderson still has juice in him .

Wood will be back, probably following the first test - remember that this series is three back-to-back test matches, so for the pace bowlers especially, it will be demanding. Although missing through injury, Kemar Roach would likely not have played all three games due to the schedule & we should not be surprised to see changes to either side's pace attack throughout the series.

Woakes does not travel, only playing the home tests for England. He has very good knowledge and skill on the surfaces that will be used, so for certain, expect him to make the XI, along with Bashir as the lone spinner - picked ahead of his county teammate Leach, who the home side have fitness concerns over. For Lords, Anderson will lead the attack in what will be his swansong. Stokes is also bowling again. Jamie Smith is very highly thought of as a promising wicket-keeper-batsman, he looks set to take the gloves despite only two county appearances behind the stumps this season - he plays in the same county side as Ben Foakes, who usually takes the role.

Injuries to test hopefuls Josh Tongue, Sam Cook & Jamie Overton have led to the surprise call up of Dillon Pennington, a tall fast medium bowler who plays for Notts. This is notable as the second of the back-to-back tests will be played on his home ground, Trent Bridge.

West Indies better be ready, this England team have been outclassed in their last test series, away to India in what was a grueling five test tour. They are sure to want to put things right this time around.

SCHEDULE:

3-day warm-up game vs County Select XI at Beckenham

3rd-5th July

1st Test (Lords)

10th-14th July

2nd Test (Trent Bridge)

18th-22nd July

3rd Test (Edgebaston)

26th-30th July

This England team will anihilate us in any weather condition we may experience, and I am not wasting money to go and sidung in Lords and experience mo pain.I can just see Root and company taking advantage of an inexperienced team.

I have similar expectations.

However, a similar WI team was expected to be annihilated in Oz recently and that didn’t exactly materialize. They gave a decent account of themselves, actually won a test match, and tied the series (thanks Conorboy)…..IN OZ

So not entirely out of the realm of possibility that they may again exceed our expectations. Particularly in the bowling department.

Keep the sentiment going, posts like this is what drove us on against the Ozzie's.
More of these please.

They have a good batting line up and they should be capable of executing Baz Ball against
a not too proven WI attack that has some big question marks.
But as they say in football, the ball is round and in cricket, expect the unexpected lol

But I don't see an Australia tour repeat.

granite 2024-06-30 18:37:44

Don't compare Oz conditions with England

Conorboy 2024-06-30 18:54:10

Compared to Oz.
Bowling unit will be better with Seales who did really well in County this year.
Batting I feel will be improved with Chanderpaul out and the experience of Oz will have done a lot of good to some of the rawer batters.
Australia are far superior to the Brits on their own soil.
Why all the pessimism.

Somebody needs to check their speed gun because Pennington is nowhere near as quick as Shamar Joseph. Pennington is around 6'3" - 6'4" and bowls in the 80-86mph range. If anything, Gus Atkinson & Matthew Potts are both probably a bit quicker than Pennington.

England do not have a genuine REAL QUICK fast bowler in this squad. Only if / when they bring Wood back in for the third & final test at Edgebaston would they have the fire to match the pace of Alzarri and Shamar Joseph. Not that their attack should be taken lightly though, the likes of Woakes in home conditions, Anderson for his last hurrah and the other, younger guys will be plenty enough to test the touring West Indian batsmen.

England must understand,
We are de champions!

doosra 2024-06-30 20:43:40

the WI attack can cause this England side some trouble

it's the batting that would be hard pressed to put up scores
