Farewell to a rather forgettable T20 Men’s World Cup
Normally, with tournaments, there is that feeling of nostalgia, and when the final is upon you, there is a bittersweet longing for more. But not this time. I will be waving a rather enthusiastic goodbye, as I will be happy to see the back of this World Cup.
This World Cup will be etched in memory, not for its brilliance, but for its blunders. It will be remembered for the embarrassingly small crowds, poor organisation, lockdowns at venues, pitches resembling minefields more than batting paradises, and a group stage setup that reeked of preordained narratives with a pre-determined script.
How the ICC set up the group standings before a ball was bowled with the "AI and A2" groups, etc., was a system as transparent as a magician's hat. No matter what, it was decided that India would play the second semi-final in Guyana, irrespective of their standings in the Super 8. This had to do with viewership in India, as the first semi-final was played at 6 am Indian time, while the second semi-final was at 8 pm in India, a more ideal time for TV viewership; essentially primetime television. Then, playing the last round of games in both the group stage and Super 8 stage with the teams that played the final game, knowing exactly what they had to do to qualify. Had the India vs Australia game been played after the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh game, would the tactics of those teams have changed? Would Bangladesh have known how many runs they needed to score in the number of overs to win the game, and/or would Afghanistan have played differently?

Some easy targets to attack in any event of this magnitude in the Caribbean. Crowd size is a variable of economics, quality of matchup, and overall significance or interest in event. Pick how many of these factored in smaller than hoped-for crowd size.
Pitches, well, whose responsibility is that? Pitches are not that great on a good regular day.
Final was memorable, one for the ages, in T20 folklore.

We love to beat up on ourselves eh?
Who ordained T20 pitches to not give bowlers a fair chance. In fact I think this worldcup should herald more sporting pitches for both batsmen and bowlers. I enjoyed seeing batsmen having to buckle down and craft innings with the balls zipping zinging and spinning. I enjoyed most of the matches.

Why in a poor economy would a world sports governing body that's making millions in TVrights not have thousands of "cheap seats" for local consumption rather than stands of empty seats?

Maybe because the people making the decisions are not from the “cheap seats” setting, and if by chance some of them are from that world, they have long forgotten that existence.

Pre-seeding teams and allowing them to retain their seeding on qualification makes sense in a destination where travel between locations is not the easiest as it allowed fans a certain amount of leeway and time to book their travel.
The ticket prices and vendor costs made no sense at all for local participation and I am of the view that the home board may be responsible for that.

Seems a hint that we should only have world cups in large countries like I.... where stadia could be filled and tv viewing audiences can pop their corn right at the optimal time. I actually dont have a problem with that. Let them bear the expense. Who from here want to go could go. I dont actually see plane loads of Indo-Americans returning to the Caribbean to enjoy our culture and beaches in the future, which is one of the main benefits of hosting events like World Cups.

That to me while reasonable and sensible ,seems to lie with the Venue Hosts.
Those should be factors negotiated when offering themselves as hosts.
The ICC should be made mindful of the Region's wealth as it is not
of 2nd or 1st world standards. Its a poor 3rd world,maybe 4th world area
that is under financial stress and some are carrying Big Debts to the
1st world.
The prices I heard for tickets were crazy.
I wonder if the Region will host another ICC tournament.
The USA certainly will. Money makes the mare run,in this case, the ICC
which stands to gain BIGLY.

Especially when what Caribbean people bring, is not monetized. You would think they (??) Would have learnt from the earlier WC's, pack the grounds, whatever it takes. You cannot pay for WI Vibes. Priceless.
