Lara: The England Chronicles

Jumpstart 2024-07-03 14:04:35

Brian Lara, the West Indies icon and one of the greatest players in cricket’s history, has written a remarkable book about his life and career.

Set for release on 2 July, Lara: The England Chronicles tells the story of the Trinidadian’s extraordinary career against and in England in his own words – unfiltered and unrestrained.

The true untouchables of sport possess a kind of mystery, and Lara – thrill-seeker, record-holder and genius – stands as perhaps cricket’s deepest enigma, at once a beautifully free strokemaker whose creativity captured an era, and an often tortured presence at the heart of a faltering West Indies side as the great teams of the past faded from view.

Sir Trevor McDonald

“I thought I had heard it all. I was wrong. Brian Lara's book proves it. Written in the first person it's an intimate account of the emotional complexities of one of the greatest players in history. Once you begin to read this book it will be very difficult to put it down. It confirms something I have always suspected. The minds of great sportsmen are not like ours. They are far greater.”

Michael Atherton

“Watching Brian Lara was to understand how batting could be.”

Gideon Haigh

“No-one batted like Brian Lara, and few cricketers have talked so openly of their lives and their drives – a book worth waiting for.”

Emir: A must read!!!

summarize de ting nah man. the book not available in TT as yet although the book store i get stuff from said they ordered a set already. yuh know then is to clear it at the port etc. probably by next week we'll have some copies.

I strongly suspect lara's comments on hooper might be along the lines of his interview with the West Indian cricket monthly in 1998 where he said that there were senior persons in the team who had not essentially underpinned their seniority by consistently positive performances. by process of elimination. walsh ambrose and lara were already legends, adams averaged over 45, chanderpaul's career was only four years old. i assume its only one person he could have been speaking about

Nah so far he has been so complimentary of Padams and Hoops. 1995 was painful and Arthurton gets some fire for attitude. Really nice things to say about Bish. Which is a credit to Bish because his light has well and truly shone.

Most fascinating is his respect and reverence for Viv, and his acceptance of what Viv’s approach to him was. By the way, he agrees with the way Viv handled him in his early career. He says himself he wasn’t ready.

What’s beautiful is the language in which it’s written

You can almost hear Brian speaking. Thankfully the editors didn’t try to ‘correct’ it.

Will he voice the audiobook? Let Trev do eeeet.
