Ah see CWI blaming the financial model again

For their problems. Now I’m not saying that the financial model is not unfair, it is totally. But you have to understand that when a so called big team is toured by a so called small team, depending on the interest the series generates, their only revenue might only be television revenue. As I said it’s unfair. I know.

But CWI’s problems have very little to do with the financial model. A foreign series, the Frank Worrell trophy down under in 79/80, our first series win in Australia actually saved the WICBC from insolvency according to Gideon Haigh in The Cricket War. And we know that the Wi travelled more than it played home during the 80-85 period. Where did the money from those tours go? Where did the money from televised coverage from when the WI first started broadcasting live cricket from the WI starting in 1990?

Thirdly, we have to consider that our own dilemma is a result of almost generational mediocrity. The only way for the WI to get big teams to tour here is to beat big teams. The WI were the biggest team in history in the 80s and as a result, teams toured here in the hopes of knocking us off the pedestal and becoming the champions of cricket themselves. And in reality, tours by England(once  between 80-90), Australia , twice between 80-90 made little financial sense for them because there were no live pictures from the WI so that means no broadcast revenue. Also, the WICB couldn’t even pay the tour guarantee for the 91 series in the Caribbean vs Australia. In fact we benefited more than them because tourists always followed their teams from England and Australia, since the early 1980s.But yet still those teams came here in the hopes of beating the number ranked team at home. That’s how you get test matches…….winning test matches. It’s a simple formula actually. The series earlier this year was a good start

We do not have the resources to put out consistently competitive teams, far less dominant, in the 3 formats of the game.

So when you have limited resources, one should focus on the format which one believes will bring the most success and therefore, revenue.

For CWI, which format do you think that is?

Until and unless , any team be successful in red ball cricket......other format , it can't excel....
The four top teams....India, Australia, England & New Zealand.....all top cricket team test teams....in the recent T-20 World Cup....India team had Rohit,Kohli,Pant,Jadeja,Bumrah, Kuldeep all successful test cricketer....
England was losing to all and sundry in 90:s.....then Fletcher - Nasser, then Flower- Vaughan...test team started performing....then automatically, white ball results came...
CWI showed invest in Red ball!!!!

This is how this white foreign dude keeps relevant. he has nothing to offer WI cricket in his glorious
position. Ok so when WI tour, they should be compensated. Does WI have resource to do likewise when
others tour WI. Those teams have higher player payrolls too and WI will have to cough up what
to compensate them.

WI may not get a fair share of ICC money but they do get enough to prosper if they spend wisely and
use the money better. The CEO should be chopped as a first step in being financially stable.
i think he was a plant to really help degrade WI cricket.

Is part of his job to get viable sponsorship to meet the cricket's needs ???
What is his expertise ?

Well I think they’ll be forced to chose two formats as the MCC already seems to want to make ODIs obsolete. I think they want to limit ODI cricket solely to world cups

You guys don't understand that boards do not get to decide what they should focus on as the format and schedule is mapped out for them way in advance by the ICC, and they have to prepare accordingly.

A % if costs should be paid to the visiting side or at least covered by the hosts.

Eventually either a test or odi league style system should be setup whether it be based on rankings or some sort of NFL style fixture system.

CWI can't really complain about finances when England have toured quite a bit over the last few years and they've hosted a T/20 WC.

Greaves and co need to look at domestic cricket.

Why do none of the franchises have their own sponsors on their kit?
Why does the West Indies struggle to get shirt sponsors or kit manufacturers?
Why is there not a better structure in place for domestic tournaments?
Is the current domestic retainer contract system providing value for money?
