Mikyle Louis ..... I like

Logic 2024-07-10 10:41:12

Early days yet, but like what I am seeing in his youth. Generally playing the ball late..... respecting the conditions.

any batsman with an average of 40 plus in first-class cricket from more than 6 matches can bat.

Looks like he watches the ball closely. Compacting defense

Generally playing the ball late....

Unlike Mc Kenzie's dismissal

This is my first time seeing Louis. Earlier he played a forward defensive shot and the ball raced away to the boundary smile

In reply to Logic

Looks very good in defense

TanteMerle 2024-07-10 11:38:32

Are you all watching the same game as me?

He is being beaten on off-stump
just like in our first class season.
The main issue is that Hinglish bowlers will bowl there all day long.

How is Louis doing? His bat seems to got a hole in it. He poke around and got the edge of his bat nick off. If you poke around in English conditions disaster is just around the corner.

InHindsight 2024-07-10 11:44:25

No disgrace in your manner of dismissal. Salute to you Mikyle Louis

voiceofreason 2024-07-10 11:47:37

Good start against very good bowling. Very sharp catch to dismiss him. This has been some good bowling in bowler friendly conditions. I expect him to come better in the 2nd innings.

Tante I see your argument but given a newbie in English conditions. He will build from there. But I agree he maybe could have attempted to be more positive

I am excited about the prospects of him batting at the top. Looks decent so far

I am not sure why you agreeing with that bumbling fool Tante Merle. The Man is a debutant batting against good bowling in trying conditions and still scored 50 s/r. I like what i saw as he has great judgment and exercised great temperament so the runs will come.

Logic 2024-07-10 11:57:13

In reply to TanteMerle

Lord's, overcast conditions, quality bowling. Don't know who would not get their bat beaten frequently with the ball still new. But you should be able to project his ability even how he is getting beaten. Not following the ball..... bat angled and playing late in forward defence....soft hands. He will make runs.

It is scandalous that Shai Hope was not selected. These are unique conditions that most of our batsmen will not have the technique to survive. But Louis looks the part

Logic 2024-07-10 11:59:43

I did not see any poking around. I saw good measured play against the new ball... he played each ball on its merit and, unlike Kraigg, put away the bad ones

InHindsight 2024-07-10 12:04:08

In reply to voiceofreason

And I agree with you as well big grin

A more experienced batter maybe could have changed gears a bit

Louis face 58 balls, scored 22 runs off of 5 balls. Scored a total of 27 runs. Therefore he scored 5 runs off of 53 balls. Is that not poking around? Plus 12 of his 22 runs came off the edge of his bat.

Good debut opening batter performance in conditions what would have been very foreign to him. You are living in lalaland if you think you can go out in those conditions against the new ball and starting beating ball around the ground. Last year the experienced Oz batters would start just as cautiously in similar conditions. I think the T20 cricket thing infecting people's brains.

Apparently any critique of any low-islander is an attack.
I like that he made the team ahead of that fool, MaCaskie.
I am just calling it like it is.

Louis is very weak on off and 4th Stump.
He is not covering his stumps with his foot work.
Balls on the stumps, he is ok
An opener needs to cover off-stump.
Bread and butter.

That is a big weakness that he has to overcome.

cricketfreak 2024-07-10 13:02:35

If Mikyle Louis was batting with a better batman at the other end i think west indies would of been in a better position like e en a hundred without lost of a wicket but Braithwaite put a lot of PRESSURE on the other batter all the time .

Logic 2024-07-10 13:02:41

Maybe McCaskie does not read this chat but perhaps his mother does. Why abuse people unnecessarily. Find something positive to say about who you like.

Louis made 5 runs off 53 balls. That puts him in the same poker class as Brathwaite.

I don't care about MaCaskie or his relatives, when it comes to cricket.
This is not a personal attack, but a cricketing one.

MaCaskie is a cricketing fool.

Waste of pick for Windies.

Fools like him keeping proper players of Barbados and Windies teams.

You seems to consider poking around and getting nick off as a good debut. Louis scored runs in a very poor competition and was granted a place in the test team. But he is definitely no great batsman at this moment. And surely nor ready for test cricket. The same goes for all the current batsman in this current team. Hope they make at least 150 or this match done in 2 days.

And here is where you end up:

But he is definitely no great batsman at this moment.

Talk about straw men

Brerzerk 2024-07-10 14:03:04

Vor, please stop setting expectations on the kid and just hope he can ease into Test Cricket and keep learning. You are saying a kid with 6 FC matches to his name WILL (not may/perhaps) avg. 50 on test debut? And if he doesn't? If he does how much will that mean since teams will have seen him bat and plan how to bowl to him? How much did Athanaze and Kirk avg after 3-4 matches? We ought to stop behaving like 'neva si com si' face reality that we do not have enough experienced FC and test batsmen so youngsters can ease into tests without high pressure.

Mind you I did not say if.

Apply the concepts of objective observation and realistic assessment. What we need is good coach, mentor and psychologist for Louis Athaz and Kirk not 'cheering gallery' or they could be destroyed.
By the way you didn't say if.

You said " I did not see any poking around".

I explained to you that he made 5 runs off of 53 balls.
Is that not poking around?
You never answered but come with some nonsense about straw men. If your knowledge of cricket is limited, I will understand , no need to reply

velo 2024-07-10 16:06:01

I knew it if this guy dont get a good score the excuses going come out now its brathwaithe fault for putting pressure on him by batting slowly lol you people real sick for sure

In reply to velo

have you seen the Poms s/r compared to our top 7? It is our bad bowling right? If the 12 yr. veteran cappo can't move the ball of the square or place it between gaps/ force the fielder to move towards it
then hell yes, it is going to impact his debutant partner.
