T&T wild night in Port Of Spain Man shot, cop shot.....

An officer assigned to the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) is in serious condition and is in need of a blood transfusion after he and others tried to stop gunmen in east Port-of-Spain on Monday night.

Police said the incident began when a 26-year-old Diego Martin man was driving his silver Mazda 323 car out of the carpark of an apartment complex on St Paul Street around 8.40 pm when he noticed two gunmen dressed in black standing on the street.

The gunmen shot the man several times in his face and chest before getting into a silver Suzuki Landy.

Officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB), were on patrol nearby and heard the gunfire. On reaching the scene, the officers saw the silver Suzuki car, however, gunmen turned their attention to the police vehicle and shot at the officers, hitting PC Charles in his chest. The officers' colleagues drove him to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated for wounds to his chest and back.

He was transferred to another health facility early on Tuesday morning.
The wounded Diego Martin man was also taken to hospital by residents where he underwent emergency surgery and was listed as being in critical condition as of Tuesday morning.

The violence in Port-of-Spain continued early into Tuesday morning when a team of officers from the GEB received information that a suspect involved in the shooting was at a house on Production Drive, Sea Lots.

The officers went to the house around 1 am and entered a room where they were reportedly confronted by a man known only as 'Johnny'.

The man who was wielding a cutlass chopped one of the officers on his helmet, as the other policemen shot the attacker several times.

The man was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was declared dead.

Bandit killed in botched home invasion

A botched home invasion at the home of a Charlieville businessman yesterday morning has left one bandit dead and another wounded.

The two men have not yet been identified. According to police reports, the men entered the businessman’s home around 4.30 am, triggering an alarm. The businessman, a licensed firearm holder, opened fire on the intruders.One bandit died at the scene, and the other, though wounded, managed to flee.

Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed, who visited the family today, emphasised the need to push back against criminal elements in central Trinidad. He stated that it was time for business owners and law-abiding citizens to have easier access to legal firearms.

Ice cream vendor shot dead after day’s work

Two days after escaping a hail of gunfire, ice cream vendor Winston Sammy was shot dead at his home in South Oropouche on Sunday night. Sammy, 53, died in the yard of his home at Hillview Avenue, Dow Village, in a murder that shocked residents who described him as a friendly and generous neighbour.

Sammy and his wife drove to various areas, selling ice cream from their white Nissan Caravan. 
A report stated that Sammy and his wife had just returned home from selling around 7 pm. Sammy’s wife entered the house while he unloaded the van.
Meanwhile, a white vehicle drove past his home, turned around and stopped in front of his house. A gunman emerged and called out to Sammy by his name. As Sammy approached the gate, the gunman shot him several times and got back into the vehicle, which drove off.

PC Maxima and PC Rampersad of the South Oropouche Police Station were on patrol and responded to a report of gunshots in the community. When they arrived at Sammy’s home, they found him lying on his back near the front gate with facial injuries.District Medical Officer Dr Cherisse Ratiram examined Sammy’s body and pronounced him dead before its removal to the San Fernando General Hospital mortuary.

Still no word on missing Felicity man

Police say they are investigating the disappearance of businessman Komal Maharaj, 40, as a kidnapping, even though they have classified the matter as a missing person.

Police said Maharaj, of Lyne Lane, off Maha Sabha Street, Felicity, was last seen at Price Plaza, Chaguanas, around 2 pm on Friday. The father of two was believed to have withdrawn money from an ATM minutes before he disappeared.

When Guardian Media visited his home, relatives said they wished not to speak about his disappearance. They thanked the public for their concerns and expressions of support.
At the time of Maharaj’s disappearance, he was wearing jeans, a red jersey, and a grey hoodie.

Woman beaten to death after leaving safe house

Shameia Went was taken into a safe house to escape the clutches of a narcissistic ex-lover, but on Friday, she reconciled with him only to end up dead yesterday. The suspect is now on the run.

Went’s body had been dropped off at the San Fernando General Hospital. Her face was bruised, and there were marks on her upper torso. Police believe Went, 22, was brutally beaten and died from those injuries.
Investigators said Shereen Khan, a proprietor, reported that around 2 am yesterday, her neighbour woke her up, asking for assistance.

Khan said when she went to help, she saw Went unresponsive on the ground. Went was placed in a black Nissan Wingroad and taken to the hospital.

Two men shot in Beetham, suspects on the run

Police say two suspects are on the run after two other men were shot and wounded at Phase Four Beetham Gardens on Monday evening.
Around 2.50pm on July 22, residents at Phase Four Beetham Gardens said they heard gunshots that lasted roughly two minutes.

One resident said, "Real corn start to buss, I would say about 200 rounds."
When Newsday visited the scene police were cordoning off the scene of the shooting in which there was a grey Hyundai with bullet holes in the left back door.

Police said two wounded men were taken to hospital. They could not confirm if any of the victims had died.
A short while later, police tried to intercept a white AD wagon, number plate PCT 4726, at Plaisance Road near John John lights, Laventille.

Mother of murdered pregnant teen: Police scared of criminals

THE mother of murdered teenager Samantha Celine Chadee on Monday accused police of being afraid of criminals, after she claimed officers refused to escort her to the scene of her pregnant daughter's murder.

Speaking to Newsday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, Christina Chadee said, "They said, 'We don't go up there, is only tactical (units) does go up there.'"

Chadee, 19, was shot dead along with Walter John, 36, as they sat in John's car at Marcano Quarry, Laventille, on July 19.
On Monday, her mother concluded that the police feared the criminals in this country.
