Alzarri Joseph

needs a break to allow for a time of reflection and time to work on skill and technique.
I fully support this young man but I must understand what I am supporting.
If you fast as the gun reflects, why can't I get a Mark Wood type outburst?
Where is the yorker? Can you get the ball to move with pace?
What is your go to ball? Do you have a plan when bowling? The stray balls you throw down, is that to distract the batsman?
Your bouncers find a place beyond the boundary.
As one of your biggest fans, I am frustrated and want to see better soon.

I, on the other hand, must admit a distinct hatred (presently) for when I see him taking the ball. At this point in his career he reminds me too much of Tino Best - fast and eminently foolish. He is West indies version of the great joke about Mario Ballotelli - a 100 million dollar talent with a ten cent head.

Fast and foolish you all say yet he has in excess of 100 test wickets in 35 test matches.

Is a lot of hate here for him. Some of it just ridiculous rest is I think people see I'm the immense potentially and wants him to be taking wickets all the time. The level they have for him they don't hold for other bowlers.
For example, most expected Shamar to come out and run through England like he did in Aus and that didn't happen and yet most said nothing. But AlJo being VC and a senior bowler more is expected. To whom much is given much is expected.
I would just like for most of the argume to to be fair.

I certainly didn't think Shamar was going to run through England esp with his lack of cricket an preparation since Oz....why you comparing a rookie of 5 tests with somebody with 35....let's keep it in context!!!

If they continue to pick him, he will reach 200, 250, or 300 wickets. But at what costs? It is good to call out those young men to improve their game, don't make them believe that they are doing well when they are not. If we like them, tell them the truth. I had full support for and high expectations of Alzarri, but i am disappointed. He seems to be one who does not wake up until he is blasted all over the place; he releases pressure. After 8 years he should be doing better, especially because he is one of the few that get to play a fair amount of cricket in all formats, all years round. If we have their interests at heart, call them out; we might be doing them a favour.

velo 2024-07-30 10:16:05

it's not about hate for me i wonder what is going on in his head you have been playing cricket for nearly a decade all around the world in diferent countries diferent conditions .and you still can not put the ball in the same area for at least 5 deliveries.his did hard supporters will tell you he picked up ten wickets in the series. but at over 40 a piece and going for 7 runs a over in a test match is not good enough

Back in the day, the standard, and an indication of greatest, was 100 wkts in 20 matches.

AS Joseph lacks consistency in his game, and the critiques levelled above are warranted.

Agreed. A reassessment must be done in the best interest of his career and West Indies cricket.

Who ever said Alzari Joseph was great?

Allyuh want to drop a bowler who regularly takes wickets.

Similar assness used to chat when Fidel Edwards was playing for WI

And the so called justification? Because he’s a senior bowler and with his experience should be bowling better?

You chat about back in the day. Well back in the day, the average # of runs in a days play was just under 300.

In today’s game, batters are much more aggressive and as a result score faster. England just scored 400 runs in a single days play against us. And it’s not an anomaly. The average runs in a days play in test cricket now is around 350 or so.

Obviously bowlers are going to go for more runs as a result.

Allyuh just forever crying down de man. Is he a great bowler. No. Not yet anyway and may never be. But he’s among the very best we have AND HE CONSISTENTLY TAKES WICKETS

But Allyuh want to drop him to what? “Teach him a lesson?”

How could you say he lacks consistency? He is consistently not taking wickets

Have you never known of players being dropped to concentrate their mind esp when yuh know they are not performing to the best of their ability esp in Alzarri's case....players can get too comfortable when thinking they are indispensable an a automatic pick no matter how badly they are performing....yes he takes wickets but by definition if he keeps bowling inevitably he must take wickets but at what cost???...his ave 45.4..econ 6.12 so in theory if the other bowlers had an econ like his for the required 90overs a day the score would be 540!!!....so taken in that context it shows how woeful his performance has been his 10 wickets not withstanding....so what is wrong with giving him a lil shake up in the hope of propelling him to do better or are we to settle for mediocrity because he "takes wickets"?????

You sound just like me now. I am one of his biggest fans but greatly disappointed particularly in his test returns. His ODI and T2OI performances and stats have been good. He appears to be focussed on pace alone rather than variety. His stock ball is back of a length, then he has the bouncer but everything else is so erratic. Rarely uses the yorker or slower ball which could be great weapons. Rarely pitches it up to get swing. I saw him come around the wicket to the leftie Duckett which was very refreshing to see. He is young still but his fans are running out of patience.

I say give him one more series vs RSA.

Utter nonsense to compare him to Tino Best. He has 100 wickets in 35 tests and he has had great success in ODIS and T20IS. I believe he will come good just give him this Test series at home.

Besar 2024-08-01 07:40:12

If he took wickets regularly his average would not be 36. We should not continue to defend and reward mediocrity. Then, again, we get just what we deserve from them.

Onionman0 2024-08-01 09:15:19

No need to castigate Joseph.....He has been given the charge to lead the bowling attack.....just few series back......under the guidance of Tait, who worked wonder with Paki bowlers..... Joseph surely excel.....give the 3 series......Go Joseph Go!!!!!!

Fidel Edwards 165 wickets @ 37 in 55 matches (economy rate 3.9. strike rate 58 )
Jerome Taylor 130 wickets @ 34 in 46 matches (economy rate 3.4. strike rate 59)
Alzarri Joseph 102 wickets @ 36 in 35 matches (economy rate 3.7, strike rate 57)

Yes, more people need to understand that we have to accept that work and thus, time, is needed in order to develop...instead of demanding world changing events overnight. Alzarri Joseph now has a new bowling coach...so let us see if he can help him.

Mustwin 2024-08-03 21:15:16

It's in your best interest Alzarri. Accept it in stride and get to work.
