WEST INDIES Championship XI put on another strong display with the bat on day two of the warm-up match against South Africa at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, but the visitors fought back in the afternoon session to set up a keenly contested tie.

After Jeremy Solozano scored an impressive 111 runs on day one, overnight batsman Shamar Springer also showed mettle as he slammed 131 on the second day, to lead the hosts to 397 all out.

In response, South Africa were led to a stern 172/2 at stumps, guided by opener Aiden Markram, who slammed 82 before retiring hurt.

I was hoping the test team would be named on CC but they didn’t. So let me use this article to raise my concerns about the test team that’s named. First, I am very disappointed they left out McKenzie after just six tests, against three of the best teams in the world and has only played one test in the Caribbean.Yes he had a bad series in England but he was our most consistent in Australia.
Secondly. Cricket WI said the reason for the championship X1 team was “part of CWI’s strategy to evaluate the readiness of potential squad members for the upcoming West Indies vs South Africa Home Test Series.” So why is Jeremy Solozano, not on the team since he scored 111 against SA? He should have been there and bat him # 3 since McKenzie is dropped.

I really like Keacy Carty, and I believe he should have gone to Australia and England. But since he wasn’t selected on what basis is he in the squad ahead of Salanzo? Yes Carty should have been on the team instead of either Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach or even Jomel Warrican, since the later was not picked for Australia or England. Our selectors are not consistent and I even wonder if they are following our players or if they are busy partying during our matches

Something is telling me that since Jeremy Solozano is from Trinidad like Daren Bravo, he must be a close friend of Bravo and West Indies selectors, both past and present have taken a decision to not play him like they did Darren Bravo, no matter how many runs he gets. I can’t understand why Solanzo played his first test against Sri Lanka in 2021, before he got injured while fielding on the morning of the first test and since then he has never been giver an opportunity.

Well, don't be too puzzled about him not getting an opportunity to play for the WI since 2021, he has not been consistently scoring runs, he has been so inconsistent that he cannot even make the Trinidad 4-day team.

I agree with you that he needs to be consistent. But who in the Caribbean is consistent? I am a strong fan of Keacy Carty, but he has not been consistent and is yet to score a first class hundred.
Now you said is because Solanzo hasn’t been consistent he couldn’t make the Trinidad team but sometimes atmosphere makes a difference.
In 2021/22 he only played 2 matches and ave 66, top score of 73, but was selected for WI, although he had a terrible 2020 season. In 2022, after the head injury he played 5 games and his ave was terrible. Even worse in 2022/2023. In 2024, he played for Windwards and played 7 games, ave 30, 2 hundreds. A 100 against SA test team should have brought him back. One last thing: Justin Greaves is Bajan but plays for the Combined Campuses, Should we say he was so bad than he couldn’t play for Barbados? Also, fyi kyle Myers is also who played for Windwards before he played for West Indies. So Salzano is not the first

Solozano did not score two hundred in the 2024 season, actually the hundred against SA is his first in quite a while. Carty is more consistent than Solozano, he deserves a try.

Its amazing how WI fans does argue about which of 2 players averaging 24 after 57 games and 28 after 48 games shud make a Test team. Den act disappointed when dese players doh light up de world.
