In his tribute to Graham Thorpe Wasim Akram says he was the best "left hand batsman" he bowled to ....fulsome praise indeed but at times when somebody passes there is tendency to go over the top in praising them ....no disrespect to Graham Thorpe he was a big one but by no stretch of the imagination could he be compared with the great B.C.Lara an never heard anybody uttering such a comparison....Wasim just sucking up to the English media plain an simple....maybe he looking a job on Sky Sports cricket lol!!!

Wasim could simply mean that while he could identify a specific chink in Lara's defense, Thorpe's defense was less vulnerable to him.

Ok i could understand an respect his opinion if they were expressed upon his retirement an he's been retired for many years...i just find it strange unless i missed it that he's never expressed that opinion before now so ppl can draw their own conclusion as to whether it's genuine or whether he's just gone over the top in his appraisal of Graham Thorpe who we all agree was a big one ....one thing for sure you won't too many if any even in the English media in agreement with him!!

Thorpe on Lara
Brian Lara could destroy any attack, at any time, on any pitch, and he was somebody you could not contain when it was his day. Sachin Tendulkar is a tiny smidgen behind, because if you wanted to bowl really short at him, maybe he wouldn't always take you on, whereas Lara always would. That was the only difference.
