Sammy had to make sure his friend in there.. We don't have a young opener in region?
Why these guys don't think outside the box and ask Rutherford/Hety to open? Even Pooran.
In reply to anthonyp
Exactly I don't get it man insularity nah done in WI cricket bai!!!
WI must be investing in Charles for the next WC!!!
In reply to WIfan26
With the amount of powerhitters in the squad Rutherford and Hety are being wasted at the bottom.
If it was up to me this would be the starting line up based on that squad
1. Hety
2. Hope
3. Pooran
4. Powell
5. Rutherford
6. Chase
7. Allen/Forde
8. Hosein
9. Motie
10. Shamar
11. McCoy
So no room for Mayers?
Wtf. Now realise Brandon King not there either. Injured?
In reply to Logic
interesting indeed.
Alick Athanaze, can we wait until this guy has some success in test? Mayers should be the player in.
Whatever happened to Odean Smith ?
One more and the support staff would make a full Xi. And with all this support, we are still full of crap. Sammy says the youngsters were included with an eye for the next world cup so what is Johnson Charles doubt there if that is the plan? Oh yes. Stupid me. Homeboy pick. Hetty should not be in this team unless he is there as a opener. He is wasted as a late order cow lasher. Hetty and Hope should open with Pooran at 3. I like Anthony P's team.
In reply to camos
Alick and Shamar have no place in this team

Johnson charles AHAHAHAHAHAHA

Using your logic what exactly did Powell do to make the squad? Shepherd? Allen?
It's all about utilizing your resources like it or not the guy still remains one of the better talents in the region. Throughout his youth career and most of his WI U19 career he opened the batting... will it be a crime to give it a try at the international level?
In reply to imusic
Was probably dropped, to the delight of many in this Rum Shop. There was rejoice when he was not named for the test, but I believed he needed that rest.
However according to coach in interview with ESPN:
West Indies' red-ball coach Andre Coley had laid out a long-term outlook with regards to Alzarri's workload management in a recent interview with ESPNcricinfo, "As far as Alzarri is concerned, it always helps to have a period of time away from the game to work on your individual skills, because you could get drawn into moving from one tournament to the next and might actually lose some of your skills.
"So it's building in the right amount of rest time where he does nothing, but then also have little periods where he is not in competition. That way he will be able to create more control around his bowling."
This should be helpful.
In reply to Bamboocane
this is the only rest available for Alzharri given that CPL follows straight after this,
then England, Bangladesh, Pakistan from November to January..
.i think there is also Regional Super50 somewhere in there as well
In reply to anthonyp
The reality states that Rovman Powell performs much better for WI than Hety.
I reiterate…..Hety extremely lucky to even be in the squad.
And this “one of the regions better talents lyrics might have been appropriate 5 years ago”. That is patently no longer the case.
In reply to allan
Agreed. I would keep them away from this kiddie cricket cr*p and let them concentrate on real cricket, where it is needed. If you want someone to bowl a few sharp overs in a smash-it match, use Oshane Thomas.
Who's hetmeyer's granfadder???
In reply to VIX
Sammy. This is his punishment for dissing WI cricket all these years. Like in the world cup, Sammy will have him warm the bench and fetch towels again.
As long as head coach has a say,
Scammy will always select Charles
In reply to TanteMerle
People on this board are suggesting that to sort out the insularity we must move from a selection panel to a single selector, perhaps the coach...
i say they mad
In reply to Narper
In reply to anthonyp
And no Oshane "OT" Thomas.
It's time to move on from Charles... He is an old man.. Get a youngster like Kirk McKenzie in there. He reminds me of a mini Gayle.
In reply to anthonyp
No King?
In reply to imusic
Resting AlJo for the entire series. He needs to reflect.
In reply to camos
It would help to groom young cricketers..
Mayers should be there instead of Charles... Kirk should be in there to..
In reply to anthonyp
So King not good enough
In reply to XDFIX
A haffih leaf!
In reply to XDFIX
King is still recovering
wunnu love cass cass
In reply to XDFIX
Nah McKenzie is the only one who's good enough...
I would certainly play Mayers before Charles but my preference would be neither. Charles, Russell etc need to be thanked for their services and sent to pasture. We have the strange situation that the test team is "investing in youth" while the T20 team is "retaining experience at all costs". We are developing no new players. I hope that the idea is that Athanaze will open to blood him properly so that we see whether at least one different player can possibly make the grade.
