Has it ever seen a capacity crowd for any form of cricket?

I’ve only ever seen empty seats there. Pathetic crowd out for this opening match.

Time for them to go back to old ARG.

Was thinking the same thing!!!

I believe the people are just patriotic and don't want to sit on seats with parts of their flag on it I guess!!!

I never understood why they would build a big ass stadium in the middle of nowhere in a country/island with such a small population.

The ARG and Stanford grounds were the perfect size for a place like Antigua and they were also perfectly located.

Are you implying that cricket fans in Antigua dont want to travel that far to watch cricket? They should have utilized the Standford ground! lol

Well something is causing them not to attend cricket matches at that stadium.

It’s been 15 years of empty seats.

I was at the knockout stage t20 World Cup game West Indies played against South Africa, and it was full to capacity (capacity might be a stretch but it was full).

I have attended WI games before and you are correct it is nothing like the ARG when it comes to atmosphere. It is just bigger but I have never seen the IVA full . ARG for sure. Money done spend soo they have to use it.

I expect bigger crowds on the weekends especially tomorrow's game vs your champs the Amazon Warriors.

The worst part of that white elephant is that they named it after the Great Man.

Mothballing ARG was one of the biggest mistakes made in cricket operations. Fantastic ground with the best party atmosphere in the Caribbean, not to mention lots of test cricket history in its short life. In small populations building stadia in barren areas should be a non-starter. ARG worked because it was at the heart of the capital city, St. John's

IVA simply lacks atmosphere. I have not been to Tarouba but I wonder if the same criticism can be made.

Okay Mr. Expert.

Tell us then why IVA Stadium can't seem to fill to even 25% capacity even when T20's are playing.

100% Bro.

Even Stanford's old ground would have worked better than IVA Stadium.

Nah.....tarouba have the vibes in excess.........the stadium is in a congested area and parking is almost non existent, but the atmosphere for the ground is second to nonew in the caribbean. it helps that its located in the southland because that is where the most enthusiastic cricket supporters live.

ARG really had history. even the final test on the ground was a classic. a typically imperious hundred from Ramnaresh Sarwan, and the first of two last wicket rearguards which ensured the West Indies maintained the 1-0 series lead they got in Jamaica. When people talk of quintessentially West Indian grounds during our heyday, two grounds come to mind: Kensington oval and the ARG. Honestly, to me its symptomatic of the way West Indians treat monuments and history in general

It just doesn't have spectators anymore. lol

But smaller grounds with low lying ceilings/roofs in the stands work best in the West Indies. Grounds like Bourda, ARG, QPO, old Kensington Oval, old Sabina stands, etc - the noise would echo and reverberate such that if they were only a 100 people in the stand it would sound like there were a 1000.

These modern big open stadia just don't suit a Caribbean atmosphere - especially now with lower crowd turnouts. For me, it's only fitting that were the result of that 2007 WC which was complete disaster for the region.
