Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
6:33pm Time for the coin flip. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots win the toss and they will bowl first.
Fletcher says it is a new pitch and they want to see what it has to offer. Stresses the need to be more responsible with the bat tonight. Two changes for the Patriots - Rutherford comes in for the injured Rossouw, with Louis also in the eleven. Pollard mentions that this is Bravo's last season in the CPL and that they are looking forward to this season in general. Adds that they had a good pre-season camp in Trinidad. Parris and Edward, both of them emerging players, are in the side tonight.

Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
...
The CPL also moves to a new venue tonight. It helps that hosts St Kitts and Nevis Patriots arrive having already won, and with plenty of ghosts to vanquish this season, home comfort could be particularly pertinent.
Up against them are the Trinbago Knight Riders. Stacked with stars and firepower from top to bottom. Akin to the Patriots, their 2023 campaign ended in disappointment, although they went all the way to the final. The fact that that still seems a missed opportunity, however, should tell you all you need to know about this franchise and how they will be gunning for more. Starting tonight.
.....
Trinbago Knight Riders XI: Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Kieron Pollard (capt), Keacy Carty, Shaqkere Parris, Nathan Edward, Dwayne Bravo, Josh Little, Waqar Salamkheil, Terrance Hinds
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots XI: Andre Fletcher (c & wk), Evin Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Mikyle Lewis, Tristan Stubbs, Odean Smith, Sherfane Rutherford Dominic Drakes, Ryan John, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi
Pitch Report: 63m and 67m square boundaries and there is a breeze around. Daren Ganga expects bat to dominate the ball. Average first innings score last season here was 184 and he reckons the scores to be similar this time round.
.....
The last time these sides met at this venue, the Knight Riders hunted down 179 inside 18 overs, powered by Nicholas Pooran's 32-ball 61. Can the Patriots get one over the Knight Riders tonight?
Shout out to Narper Holidaying in T&T...
The umpires make their way out to the middle, followed soon by the players. Narine and Roy will open the batting for the Knight Riders.

8:45pm Wow. Just wow. An amazing and astonishing display of stroke-making, headlined by Nicholas Pooran and supported ably by Keacy Carty. The pair, from the moment they got together, did not miss a beat and smashed the ball to all parts, making the Patriots scratch their heads for answers. Narine was not bad either at the start and his cameo set the Knight Riders on their way inside the powerplay.
Not much to celebrate from a bowling POV. The Patriots were all over the shop and could not contain a powerful batting unit, often allowing them to score on both sides of the wicket. Their fielding was also incredibly sub-par and their decision to not bowl out Shamsi seemed odd, given Drakes, who bowled his full quota, went for 77. They have a mountain to climb now but they do have firepower of their own. If that will be enough, well, we will find out in a bit!
Keacy Carty: It is pretty good for batting but a bit slow when it is on a length. As a batter, you pick your areas, back your skill and try to execute. I was trying to hit the ball through extra cover, square of the wicket. Shamsi was basically their main factor, so tried to keep him out of the game by not giving him wickets. (On batting with Pooran) It is like watching a highlights package live. (On the TKR dressing room atmosphere) There are a lot of experienced and great players, so it makes the job very clear and less complicated. They make it clear the roles they want you to play. (On what could work with the ball) Hard length, just outside off - that is a strong option on this pitch.

The Patriots ransacked 66 in the powerplay but that was still below what is required. Tells you the enormity of their task. Salamkheil into the attack now
Waqar to Lewis, OUT
cleans him all ends up! Plenty of revs on this wrong'un, and this drifts away beautifully before pitching just outside off and spinning into Lewis, who looks to smash it into next week. Loses track of it and because he did not pick the variation, he only connects with fresh air. The ball crashes into the stumps, and that is a big moment in the game!

miscued, and put down at deep mid wicket! Slowed up further and bowled slightly shorter just outside leg. Stubbs has a swipe across the line and skews it high up. Carty settles under it at deep mid wicket but grasses it

that has gone a long way! Slower and shorter on middle and leg. Louis gives Narine the charge and despite not being to the pitch of the ball, goes through with the stroke. The bottom hand comes off but it does not matter in the grander scheme of things, with the ball flying a mile over long on!

the Knight Riders win, and they do it rather comfortably! Dug into the track on middle and leg. John is hurried into the pull and plonks it towards deep mid wicket. An anti-climactic end to a high-scoring game, but there is no doubt who the better side was tonight!
A fairly convincing victory for last year's finalists. The Knight Riders took the game well beyond the Patriots with the bat, and the hosts could not muster enough of an effort in the second innings. There were brief patches of promise, most notably when Lewis and Louis were blazing away in the powerplay but the dawn of the middle overs and the introduction of Narine, put paid to their hopes of a remarkable run-chase.
Speaking of Narine, he was sensational as usual, going at six runs per over in a game where more than 450 runs were scored. He also bagged a couple of wickets. Salamkheil also did his bit in the middle overs, with Bravo also bowling tidily. Hinds and Edward also gave good accounts of themselves, although the former might want to cut down on the wides he bowls moving forward.

Nicholas Pooran, Player of the Match: It was definitely a good innings. Good pitch, small boundaries, it was important for us to get to that sort of total. St Kitts have a dangerous batting line-up and as we crossed that 200-mark, it was important to get as many more (as possible). As a batter, coming here, it is favourable and all about being clear. Sunil gave us the perfect start. Really happy that Keacy and I got to form a partnership and take it as deep as we did. I have been playing T20 cricket for a long time and have gained a lot of experience. I am growing nicely, understanding who I want to be as a player. Comes with a lot of responsibility and sacrifice. At the end of the day, I want to win matches and tournaments. I want to win the CPL and if I want to do that, I need to keep doing my job.
