Evin was way laid long before Dessie called him!

Correct

In a 3 match ODI series against Ireland in the Caribbean in 2020, Evin Lewis scored 99 not out in the first match and 102 in the 3rd match

Immediately following that series, the WI selectors met to select the ODI team to tour Sri Lanka in February 2020

They didn’t select Lewis or Hetmeyer because they didn’t pass the fitness test.

The chief selector?? Roger Harper.

Obviously, passing a fitness test is/was deemed to be more important than actual performance.

Priorities eh?

And if Allyuh think I lie…..CHECK IT OUT FOR ALLYUH SELF

That was effectively that for Evin Lewis’ West Indies career

He is 33 now, probably got one more shot at making it back to the team, but the big question is, does he even want it?

Most of these guys look at the CPL and regional 50 over as an audition for other franchises. They've already got what they needed from West Indies, i.e. an exposure to the international stage, and now all they care about is playing for franchises.

while form and fitness are both important, the question is why didn't Lewis work on his fitness like others in the squad did?

Why did he not make the team after the series against Sri Lanka? if he wanted to represent the region so bad, he would have found a way to work his way back into the team

If they have a set criteria for selection that they are all aware of, and refuse to adhere to. Then, because a person made 99 runs, we are prepared to bypass the set rules to accommodate them, isn't that setting a bad precedent? Down the road when others refuse to meet the criteria, how would it be justified to leave them out? Sometimes we just have to be big enough to give our youths good advice, to play by the rules. Every setting that we function in are guided by rules and regulations.

When I watched Fire in Babylon, they said they included WI in the Kerry Packer World Series knowing they were top players but not winners

Maybe Lewis can entertain but not win as well

Let me see if I understand you correctly.

They played Ireland in January 2020. The final match of the 3 match series was played on January 12 2020. That was the match where Lewis scored 102 out of a total of 199 for 5 resulting in a WI win by DL method due to rain interruption.

Lewis was named Man of the Series and also WI highest run scorer in the series.

Unless the criteria you mentioned was not in place prior to the Ireland series, Lewis was obviously deemed fit enough to play AND perform outstandingly for his team in that series.

21 days……so 3 weeks later……WI selectors announced the team to tour Sri Lanka and dropped Lewis due to his inability to pass a fitness test.

So he was fit less than a month ago to be Man of the series and outperform everyone on a team that included the following:

Shai Hope
Brandon King
Nicholas Pooran
Kieron Pollard
Sunil Ambris
Romario Shepherd

But 21 days later, he not fit enough to go to Sri Lanka?

Here’s the message the selectors likely wanted to send:

Fitness is of critical importance and if you can’t pass the fitness test, you won’t be selected.

Here’s the message that was likely received:

No matter how good you perform, fitness takes precedence. So focus on passing the fitness test to be selected. Performance is secondary.

The selectors may have figured that they sent a clear message to everyone where fitness lies in the priority scale. And not even a Man of the Series is exempt.

Well they sent a clear message alright.

Given the size of our populations, we already scarce on world class, or potential world class resources. This is a virtual example of cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face.

Well intentioned no doubt. Asinine in reality.

They doing the same thing with Hetmeyer. The difference is……Hetmeyer doh perform. Not anymore for WI anyway.

In today’s world, dem fellas DO NOT NEED WEST INDIES to earn a good living. They see what goes on. They see for every Pooran, there are a dozen Jermaine Blackwood’s, Fabien Allen’s etc

Doh talk fuh so called fans and their eternal criticism and vitriol.

We deserve what we get because is so we like it.

What was more disappointing in that entire situation is that Simmons & Pollard his countrymen were Coach & Captain what did they really think they were going to accomplish especially when they were picking Cornwall in Test Cricket!!!

I really do not understand how anyone could come to the conclusion because a player excels in T20 or ODI cricket he should open in Tests. It is the most perplexing conclusion how do you arrive at this?

Congrats to him on his ton!
