Rowley's Dictatorial Tendencies Troubling for Democracy
"Prime Minister Rowley's recent stunt of appointing a National Advisory Committee on Constitutional Reform was nothing more than a shallow attempt to distract the populace from his government's numerous failures.
From the beginning, it was clear Rowley had no real interest in meaningful change, as evidenced by his swift dismissal of key recommendations without proper deliberation.
As a citizen who cares deeply about T&T's democracy, I see Rowley's actions as further proof that he and his party do not understand the fundamental flaws that have plagued our nation since independence.
For over six decades, our constitution has enabled rampant corruption, mismanagement of public funds, and a lack of accountability from those in power.
Without far-reaching reforms, we will remain stuck in this perpetual cycle of unrealized potential.
Rowley lists updating local government as one of his "significant successes" but fails to recognize how superficial this is.
Merely tinkering with local councils does not address the systemic rot that has spread throughout our political system due to weak checks and balances.
True autonomy and decentralization of authority cannot be achieved without bolstering parliamentary oversight of the cabinet, civil service, state enterprises, and other institutions.
As it stands, our Parliament is a mere rubber stamp for the ruling party's agenda.
There are no real consequences when ministers break rules or act against the public interest.
Whistleblowers are ignored, if not actively suppressed.
Without measures to increase transparency and consequences for abuse of power, so-called "reforms" are meaningless.
After six decades of lackluster , self-serving leadership that has squandered our nation's promise, Trinidadians deserve elected officials who understand the depth of change we so desperately need.
We need a reworking of the separation of powers that gives our democratic branches real teeth to hold the powerful accountable.
Most of all, we need leaders who are willing to relinquish some control in service of good governance, not just political legacies.
If Rowley is truly committed to reform, he must start over with a sincere, comprehensive process that engages the public in substantive discussion of the root problems.
So far, this attempt has been an utter farce that continues the long tradition of empty gestures over transformative action.
The future of this nation hangs in the balance—it's time for real leadership."

Where have we gone wrong?
IN a country with so much potential, I used to wonder how come we are heading to hell in a hand basket. We possess diligent, honest people, boundless diverse natural resources, blessed with cultures any other nation would envy. So where have we gone wrong? The simple reality is that we have sold our integrity for comfort. We have been led so far down a rabbit hole that really we will not be able to recover any time soon. The falling dullness that is now our national patrimony is another step in accepting our nation losing its way into becoming a draconian state. Now those who fall in line with this patronage are free to do whatever they want to any extent without redress or accountability.
The sentiments of that lady from Tobago still ring true, ‘We in charge now deal with it!’
Corruption is not an act of a singular entity, but a network. Our people are being fed a poisonous fodder that has debilitated our reasoning. We are overworked and too exhausted to realize what is happening to us. Those who are mandated to protect us from these evils are so compromised or so out that they don’t even know right from wrong! How many of us are suffering only because no one wants to do the right thing and those in power allow such abuses to fester, destroying our ability to fight? The bigger question is how long are we going to allow this to continue and when are we going to recognize the stench that is emitting from the fish head.
Dr Rowdy Rowley just want his term to end real fast & to retire as a statesman & to be, forever, referred to as a former PM & statesman of TT!
