Antigua playing and stadium looks empty
That Fakar Zaman and Greaves openning.
Vs St Lucia Kings
6 - 0 after 1, Antigua Falcons batting
Antigua 15 without loss after 2 overs
9 runs off Forde
Alzarri bowling 3rd over
146.7 kph 4th delivery
3 runs off over
18 without loss
Fakar hits Forde straightback for six!
Chase gets 2 in 2 balls, Zaman and then James? Nope overturned. 35 for 1.
Would you pay to watch this? Even no vibe in the ground. Not even the party stand. If Johnson Charles gets going tonight, this will be over in 10 overs.

Probably because no great batsmen in T20
They gwine show up for the finals!?
The stadium looks good for a Tuesday night. A population of 90 k can not full a 20k stadium.

Makes a lot of sense..
So a waste basically ?
In reply to voiceofreason Aren't tourists and tourism products part of the allure and attraction for home countries willing to give taxpayers money away to host this team? Ah the spectacle....!

It took you quite a number of years (decades, actually) to arrive at that conclusion. But as the saying goes, better late than never.

The stadium was built and financed and built by the Chinese Government for the World cup 2007. The stadium as is can seat 10k but with additional seating can double to 20k. It was always too big for this market.

Well the tourism aspect was not so much about people coming to see the games but marketing for people to come throughout the year not just for cricket.

Well i was not for the Stadium to begin with but I not from Antigua so that does not matter. They could have refurbished the ARG and renamed it as that venue had a lot of history with 3 world records and WI highest test score. I have been to both venues and ARG is by far my favorite.

The ARG was a novelty in that it was the first cricket ground in the Windward/Leeward area to host (recognized) International cricket. It was a novelty, which not only attracted the crowds from the neighboring islands, but from the larger 'islands' as well. By the emergence of the Viv Richards Stadium, the novelty had rubbed off because other competing facilities by then had been built on some of the other islands making the travel to Antigua no longer appealing/necessary.
In summary, too many stadiums on too many islands competing for the same 'resources'. The combined population just too small to support them all.
I stated the above opinion some 15 years or so ago and as a result, got my head handed to me in a basket.

Hope you saved the basket...if not ????????/
