Crazy...That just explains one great reason for not being a Republic with a Set day
day for Election..same for Local as well as General.
This manipulation under current Parliamentary system does not serve the people/
I would like to see the first Friday of February become a national holdiay/fixed Election date.
My reasoning is that it would give people time to recover from Christmas and New Years and also
be a month that would not suffer from hurricanes that could disrupt elections.
Not that other disasters are not possible but I think in terms of frequencies of hurricanes and storms,it would be wiser to have a
Set Election day well outside the Hurricane season.
This would eliminate Ash Wednesday which is only a 'religious' thing and not National.
There would also be almost a full year for newly elected to be judged by Christmas lol
On Friday it would only shortern a school week by a day to resume on Monday..as the weekend
is enough time to get final counts if people are proficient.
But I can only dream. The republic to come will probably be more monarchal than what is extant.smile
However, what now pertains is harmful to constituents that are without representation.
Disrespectful and worthless actions this on the part of Honliness, the PM.

You know, I always wondered why schools are on vacation for election day

They don't need schools to be voting stations - there are so many other government buildings that can be used.

I am not thinking that schools should be used for voting stations...But 18 year olds vote. And they should be allowed to
do so as well as all ancillary staffers and others within the system.
Under a proper system, there should be no excuse for anyone not to vote hence you want the entire electorate to be mobilized on that day to
make their own choices.

All registered voters should be voting...less than 40 per cent is voting which makes for minority government not of
the people.Under a Republican system, Jamaica should encourage compulsory voting...the sick should bed able to
remotely..take 2 or more witnesses(Poll workers) to their abode and have them do the ballots.

It has become common for registered voters to demand money to vote. This must be eradicated forthwith and those
that refuse to vote and participate in their government should also not expect some of the benefits accorded to
others who are active partakers of the system.. voters must understand that they are the empowered ones to
form the government they want.
I don't see this happening in Jamaica but I am a radical when it comes to some things.
Failure to exercise the franchise to vote should result in a penalty of some kind.
And you know what, often the biggest complainers are non voters.
This shouldn't be lol
Of the people,by the people for the people is the mantra in the USA. It is good example to follow.
That could be a start/

Am allowed to dream,am I not ? lollol

PNP boycott. It is obvious the removal of Smith was to make way for Samuda as Minister of Finance.
Dis is too vulgar.

Vulgar is mild. It's all about the politicians, not the people. I guess that seat is ironclad for the JLP.
Wouldn't an upset be nice ? lol Would have thought the seat of outgoing FM would be the one
for Samuda
