St Lucia Kings vs Trinbago Knight Riders ..VOR...?

St Lucia Kings vs Trinbago Knight Riders

Caribbean Premier League. It is Match 12

6pm Neither the St Lucia Kings or the Trinbago Knight Riders won their last games. Those results, though, could not have come in more contrasting fashion. While the Knight Riders lost a game they could well have won on another day, the Kings just did not turn up against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, were bundled out for 100 and saw that score being chased down in 10 overs.

So, even though the immediate objective of both sides will be similar - to return to winning ways tonight - they might have to overcome slightly different hurdles and obstacles. The Kings, having been chastened so harshly in their first outing at home, will have to completely cast aside memories of that encounter; the Knight Riders, meanwhile, will want to retain the things that served them well against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, wanting a more coherent display that makes that defeat seem more and more like an aberration. All while two vital points remain up for grabs…

.......

St Lucia Kings...........4 pts

Trinbago Knight Riders....2 pts

6:15pm The Kings hold a 3-2 advantage over the Knight Riders in their past five meetings.
Will they come out on top again tonight, or will the Knight Riders throw a spanner in their works?

sgtdjones 2024-09-10 22:29:26

....

6:20pm Trinbago Knight Riders have won the toss and they have opted to field first.

Trinbago Knight Riders XI: Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Keacy Carty, Kieron Pollard (capt), Shaqkere Parris, Andries Gous, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, Waqar Salamkheil, Terrance Hinds

St Lucia Kings XI: Faf du Plessis (capt), Johnson Charles, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Khari Campbell, Aaron Jones, Shadrack Descarte, Roston Chase, Tim Seifert (wk), Matthew Forde, Alzarri Joseph, Noor Ahmad

sgtdjones 2024-09-10 22:42:23

...

Pitch Report: 62m and 63m square boundaries, 74m hit straight down the ground. Alzarri Joseph joins Pommie Mbangwa for the pitch report, and Joseph says hitting against the wind will be pretty tough. There is a slight dark patch on a good length, like the other evening and that might be an area bowlers look to target. There could be some moisture underneath because of all the rain around.

More info from the toss: Pollard admitted that they did look a little rusty and that they have to go out and earn the right to win, irrespective of who they are facing. Two forced changes, with Russell one of those missing out, alongside Little. du Plessis, meanwhile, mentioned the pitch does not look as tacky as the other evening and their goal is to put up a good total on the board.

sgtdjones 2024-09-10 22:53:36

Keacy Carty: (On his start to the season) I have been dismissed once, luckily have had a bit of luck on my side. 100 runs in two innings - it has been a good start. Just trying to do my job on the day. Your job might change game to game and you just have to adapt (sometimes). (On batting in a line-up of explosive hitters) Not really difficult. I am not an explosive player, not an out-and-out six-hitter but I can hit a six when need be. I try to play my natural game.

Odinlass: "Don't know about the wicket but hope The St Lucia Kings make 200+ for TKR to chase." -- This venue did produce plenty of runs during the men's T20 World Cup in June, although the Kings might not be thinking too far ahead, and their objective, right at the outset, will likely be to get off to a good start.

Narine to Descarte, OUT
huge appeal, not given! Back of a length delivery that pitches on middle and leg and then spins away. Descarte has no clue about it and goes nibbling at it. Pooran thinks the batter has nicked it but the umpire is unmoved. Pollard, after a bit of chat, opts to review. The ball is quite close to the outside edge and UltraEdge confirms a nick. Clear enough spike, and Descarte has to go!

another chance goes down! Flighted up full outside off, enticing du Plessis to go inside-out. The Kings skipper is beaten in the air, though, and slices it badly. Narine ambles after it from short third and makes a complete meal of it. He never looked comfortable under it

He needs to take lesson from Pollo on how to run-up to the wicket even if he runs faster than he actually bowls.

Narine to Rajapaksa, no run
another massive appeal by Pooran for a caught-behind, but not given! Fizzed through on a length on middle and off. Pitches and spins away, seemingly going past Rajapaksa's slog across the line. Pooran, though, is adamant the ball has grazed the willow and convinces Pollard to review. Flat line on UltraEdge and the Knight Riders burn a review!

Hinds has the last laugh! Full and wide outside off. Seifert throws himself at it, losing his balance in the process too. He is hitting into the wind, though, and that makes things harder for him. Slices it and Hosein, under it at deep backward point, does the rest. A handy cameo comes to an end!

Have no fear, Pouty is still there!

sgtdjones 2024-09-11 02:35:49

27 off 12. The pressure is on. Pollard needs to find the fence a few times this over. Forde to bowl the penultimate over

Forde to Pollard, SIX runs
Pollard breaks the shackles! A smidgen short outside off and that is all Pollard needs. Picks the length in a flash, swivels and dumps it flat over the deep square leg fence!

Forde to Pollard, SIX runs
another Kieron Pollard special - and that too under severe pressure!

Trinbago need 3 runs in 6 balls.

Forde to Pollard, SIX runs
straight as a dye, and flat as a tank!

Forde to Pollard, SIX runs
fifty for Kieron Pollard, and he has brought it up in vintage style!

Pollard is hitting with the breeze to the leg side

voiceofreason 2024-09-11 02:35:58

Only 5 from Aljo's over! RRR 13.50 . Penultimate over could be the game changer. Forde to bowl. Dot ball first up to Pollard! 27 from 11.

voiceofreason 2024-09-11 02:36:31

666 Pollard once he is there its not over!

voiceofreason 2024-09-11 02:37:18

Pollard declines the run! He is taking this himself!

voiceofreason 2024-09-11 02:38:21

6666 more Pollard off Forde!

6666 again!

voiceofreason 2024-09-11 02:39:23

666666 again! 50 for Pollard ! 3 from the last over!

sgtdjones 2024-09-11 02:39:57

Trinbago need 3 runs in 6 balls.

Alzarri Joseph to Hosein, FOUR runs
Hosein finishes it with one blow, and the Knight Riders win with five balls to spare! Pollard does the shush celebration again, and the crowd descends into silence. They cannot believe what has hit them!
This is short and wide outside off, which allows Hosein to free his arms. Gets a good chunk of it too and flays it over backward point. A few shell-shocked looks from those in the Kings camp. They came up against the might of Pollard tonight and when that happens, you usually come up second-best!

Three needed off the final over, which will be bowled by Joseph. Surely this is the Knight Riders' game now?

voiceofreason 2024-09-11 02:44:05

Too much Pollard at the end. SLK should have made 200 plus if not for 49 dot balls need to reflect on that.

as soon as Polly came in he had to bring back Alzharri

10:42pm A thrilling run-chase, headlined by Pollard, who wound back the clock and showed he's still got it. When he walked in to bat, the Knight Riders needed 65 off 40. They then needed 27 off 12 but Pollard barely batted an eye-lid. He picked his match-up, targeted the penultimate over and tore into Forde. Prior to that, Parris had enhanced an already burgeoning reputation, racing away to a 20-ball fifty that set the tone nicely for the visitors.

An indifferent outing with the ball for the Kings. They were good in patches but lacked the consistency to apply pressure. Their returns, especially in the first half of the TKR innings, were not great either and their response to Pollard taking them down was also not as swift or decisive as they would have wanted. Descarte, though, did pull through quite nicely and that, along with Noor's two-wicket haul, were perhaps bright spots in their bowling display.

Afeef: "Pollard did what he has been doing for over a decade. Always enjoy watching him at his best like this."

Kieron Pollard, the Trinbago Knight Riders is also the Player of the Match: (On the celebration) For someone who has played for the West Indies, captained them (the West Indies) and played a lot in St Lucia, for them to boo…Young Shaq (Parris), showing his worth from the first ball he faced, he set the tempo. He did not have a great day in the field. Everyone has roles and responsibilities, and if my role is to finish games, that is what I have to do. Love seeing the young guys (contribute). We continue to do that and until I call it quits, I'd like to do that (give opportunities to the youngsters).
