the better question is how many mediocre bajans we got or were forced upon us

doosra 2024-09-13 22:54:36

In reply to allan

here is a better question

how many have you kept but failed to develop?

didn't he leave early?

camos 2024-09-13 23:02:01

In reply to allan

was that guy ever a WI prospect?

WIForever 2024-09-13 23:11:42

In reply to camos

He left at 12 years on a scholarship with the intention to play for England ultimately.

A no-brainer which country any aspiring cricketer would pick. Financially and cricket development wise.

That IS the better question.

That list is exhaustive........dave mohammed, assad fudadin, vasbert drakes, amit jaggernauth, robert samuels, ...........ricardo powell. as i said in an earlier post, west indies since we were overthrown in 1995 has had a few cricketers that were ready for the international game from the time they started: ganga, gayle, sarwan, dj bravo, adrian bharath, xavier marshall, whose biggest fan was Ian Chappell, and lately shamar and jayden seales. others required nurturiung ands chances to develop, which they never got. WI cricket should be taught in universities as how not to manage a human resource pool

Jumpy will say Lincoln Roberts

lol

Jumpy avoided the 1984 team story. The 1984 selection is arguably the greatest test line up of all time. Bajans dominated those great Windies teams of the 80's. Jumpy's favorite Gomes although dependable was second string to the main cast.

We have lots of talent in Caribbean but don't know how to develop it. Rivals Clarke was better than Bethel, where is he now?
Archer was a discard...

Barbados (good ole boy) selectors kill the youths progress over the years. Rivaldo and Bethel were on the same path. Bethel's family figure this was the best path for him. Bim still playing games with Rivaldo. He should've been Barbados kepper last year not Dowrich. These fools have no vision at all.

PalsofMine 2024-09-16 02:38:41

In reply to seaegg99

maybe he will get smart and move to the islands like Greaves and Springer and get some play

WIForever 2024-09-16 02:50:13

Put these same cricketers in a system with proper 365 development and they will excel.

What difference does it make?
The BCA doesn't have the structure for the development of players.
Ryan Hinds and hundreds of others were part of the structure.
Has the BCA produced a batsman since Desmond Haynes?

what year is barbados living in.....is it 2016 like in ethiopia so that bajans believe their glory days are closer to them than they actually are

allan 2024-09-16 16:23:56

look at India
they have 4 teams ( ABCD) playing 4 day cricket
We might not have the pool like them
but we could have at least 22 players outside of CPL now playing 4 day cricket
- kraigg
- Jos
- Hodge
etc

At.least Bim had glory days.

And trinidad did not?
Before the parasitic CPL
De coral rock ever beat TT in a t20? if im not mistaken, TT only ever lost to windwards and guyana in the caribbean from 2008-2013. And only to mumbai indians, NSW and a inconsequential game vs sunrisers hyderbad. never lost to CSK, beat then ipl champs deccan(fidel was in that side)

The man is speaking of J&W league cricket.

Onionman0 2024-09-17 15:45:00

When we talk about players from other countries playing for England.....Small, Defreites,Lamb,Robin Smith,Holliake bros,Peterson,Curran bros, many more....

Reasons vary from political to economy..... England being a developed country, gave the players life style...these players hardly could imagine same playing for country of birth....

Even players, who played for their country of birth......after successful career choose to settle in Britain.....

As for Bethell ......the lad after playing 20 First Class matches @ 25 , bowling 7 wickets @ 96...... white ball no better.....

Talent or not..... in future, it can be seen but.... can't imagine a player with same playing record is selected for West Indies team......all posters, who are full of praise for England selectors, system et al....... would lampoon the West Indies administration for similar act .....

Smell the Coffee.....

he man is speaking of J&W league cricket.

maybe, but the owners of that league have seen very few bajan players useful enough to give them a pay day......holder, rtn as a mascot and hope.

League cricket has been around for over 50 years, it meant nothing to me at that time and T20 league cricket means nothing to me now.
It the same as Curry Goat cricket, only different people get paid for playing it.
West Indies could easily change T20 to a Six hitting contest.

I like the look of the youngster coming though. Bowling looks really strong and a few batsmen standing out Morris, Dorne, Carter and Branch looks the part.

Wiggins @15 plus looks like a great prospect, but someone has to look after him and help him to manage his weight and fitness.

Agree, Jahidi Hinds who opens with him at U15 looks promising also. Winning the U19 and U15 double and losing out on the double in U17 due to rain, shows there is much to work with moving forward.

tc1 2024-09-17 22:02:28

In reply to seaegg99

Yes , rain stop the double at u17 and the youngsters are not afraid to play the hook or pull shot which shows a different approach to batting from the years of yesterday.
