BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Barbados police have appealed to a person whom they regard as the main suspect to turn himself over to law enforcement authorities as they probe a deadly shooting over the weekend that left three people dead and eight others injured.

I hoping that Caribbean PM will counter any type of mayhem in the society, so that B’dos will not follow in the footsteps of JA and T&T.

It so saddens me to live to see gun violence of that level in Bim especially knowing that as well as US culture and Urbanization my own Yard has butba little contribution to that state of affairs

i agree. barbados way too small for that. also, doh feel that investment in education is some kind of miracle cure. the trinidad experience, one of the top spenders on education in the hemisphere and the top spender in the region is proof of that. my argument has always been you need to limit the type of entertainment your people are exposed to. Trinidad had 15-20 percent unemployment at the end of the 1980s. the murder rate then was well under 100. also, having an efficient judiciary is critical. police should not have to carry a case to court knowing a matter could take 5-10 years, not to mention bail and the possible elimination of witnesses, destruction or tampering with evidence that comes along with that.

Aren't those Trinidad numbers alone?

Tobago homicides almost same as Bim. Tobago population is 60,000. Bim pop near 300,000

T&T population is 5+ times that of Bim. Do the math.

Barbados isn’t a popular transshipment point as it is in the Atlan Trinidad is, in fact TT may be the most popular transshipment point as it’s only 7 miles away from Venezuela. The drugs going through Venezuela comes from Peru, Colombia and Argentina. Rosario in Argentina is a drugs and hubs hotspot. And there is a very high demand for drugs, specifically cocaine in Europe. I strongly suspect that more Caribbean islands are being used for drug trafficking hence you’re hearing about brutal gun crimes in places that didn’t have it before: Barbados, St Marteen etc

Tobago Records its 22nd Murder

Tobago's murder toll continues to climb as a man was shot dead this morning in Parlatuvier.

Alvin Daniel was one of two people shot. Police said Daniel and a woman were sitting in a car around 4 a.m. when gunmen drove up and opened fire.
He was taken to Roxborough General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His death brings the island's murder toll to 22 for the year.

Not only in JA and T&T but many Caribbean islands are quietly been overwhelmed by Crime and Violence, of which many are hidden in the centre pages of respective newspapers and briefly commented on in the news. For example, no one would believe the number of gunshots heard nightly in USVI because this never makes the news, might be youths firing shots in the air but still very disturbing.

Crime Index for 2023:

1 Trinidad And Tobago 70.6
2 Jamaica 67.8
3 Bahamas 62.4
4 Puerto Rico 62.0
5 Dominican Republic 61.2
6 Us Virgin Islands 60.9
7 Barbados 47.9
8 Cuba 31.6

Barbados 47.9

Don't usually multiple post on one thread but Slippy (TMvor) Bim recorded 21 murders in 2023 i.e. 7 deaths per 100,000 people. Those are first world statistics.

Where 47.9 per 100,000 (assumption) come from?

"crime" is a broader categorization than murder.
