This incident may have exposed a grey area in the Laws of the Game, as there is no explicit ruling on such an incident taking place. Law 31.7 allows the umpires to recall a batter who has left the wicket under the misapprehension of being given out, but in this case Imad had left only after being given out.
In addition, while the correct decision may have eventually been made, Pollard and TKR's case could be strengthened by the fact that the reversal of the TV umpire's initial decision was not made according to any due process, but simply on-the-fly.

Bear in mind the batsman knew he hit it and also the original decision was NOT OUT!!!
So if we’re using technology shouldn’t we want to use it for the right decision???

There shouldn’t be an argument why the batsman left the field. It’s bloody simple he was given out . If you are given out you go off . If you’re waiting on a decision and decide to leave the field the. That’s a different matter.
The right thing was done in the end .

The umpire erred even though the technology clearly showed the ball hit the bat. So anything after that is mute.
Like what if the bowler had overstepped and the umpire still carried through with his decision. The umpire clearly made a bad call and right his wrong. Most the issues I see here is from supporters of TKR who just being mischievous and the rest being ignorant.
But to be honest I feel right call was made

Now if the umpire had given it OUT I would’ve have supported them with insufficient evidence and the decision goes back to the on field umpire!!!
But then again there was sufficient evidence to show the deviation off the bat!!!

I don't know who else on this MB has any legal experience.
I guarantee you that if such matter went before a court of law,
the court would rule in favor of the batsman returning to the crease.
If you want, look up rues on interpretation of law, or statutory interpretation,
which are guides used by judges to settle disputes and interpret laws.
such as 'The Golden Rule', 'ejusdem generis rule', mischief rule, literal rule etc.
The misapprehension law (cricket law) would apply to this situation.
The correct decision was made last night.
I empathize with Pollard, but the correct decision was made.
I just don't understand how people on this MB don not see this.

Is due process not reviewing the decision to overturn the call ?Do you not do that by replaying the video over and over again? On the fly ? I just thought the Umpires needed to be firmer and say decision made lets get on with the game!

When I pointed this out yesterday, the much maligned sarge was the only one to pick up on it.
It was much more fun to assume a done deal and sentence Polly and Simmo to death.
Them professional folks dealing with amateurs in skill and thought is probably so draining. Lara walked away because of it.

but cricket doesn’t work like that does it?
When you hit the ball and get called out for LBW, and don’t have a review left you have to suck it up in Test cricket.
You guys who want to question a mankad rule are the same guys that support not walking until the ump sends you. Or appealing for an obvious not out LBW.
What are laws if not to create structure.

Yea that’s absolutely true but the Umpire in this situation gave it NOT OUT!!! Not to mention that there was conclusive evidence that ball hit the bat first!!!
So if the technology is being called upon shouldn’t it be used to bring about the right decision???
