TKR look to 'dominate again,' face struggling Patriots in Tarouba

FOUR-TIME Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) will aim to get back to winning ways when they host cellar-placed St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKNP) from 7 pm at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) in Tarouba on September 22.With the Kings and Royals already sealing their playoff places ahead of their second meeting in as many days on September 22, TKR will be looking to join the party as they continue their hunt for a fifth title.

TKR are fourth on the six-team table with eight points from six matches, and they will be coming up against a Patriots team which is on an eight-game losing skid – their lone victory coming in a last-ball thriller against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the first game of the 2024 season on August 29. For captain Kieron Pollard and the TKR team, they will want to rebound quickly after going down to the Falcons by six wickets in a controversial affair at the Queen’s Park Oval, St Clair on September 19. It was the Falcons’ second win over TKR this season and kept their own playoff hopes alive ahead of their September 21 meeting with reigning champions Guyana Amazon Warriors.

So they should. SKNP lacks leadership and basically have only pride to play for. I hope they could get their 2nd win but just don't see it.

The real test for TKR will come vs SLK, GAW and BR.

6.15pm So, a miserable campaign for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots comes to an end today as they take on Trinbago Knight Riders. Patriots won their first match of the season, and have not tasted victory since. Knight Riders, meanwhile, are looking to secure a playoffs spot. They are already fourth on the table, and have played fewer games than all the other teams. They had a blip in their last match, against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons after a string of three victories, and will look to get back to winning ways.

Three changes for TKR, one of them being a forced one. Sunil Narine, Josh Little and Shaqkere Paris miss out. Jason Roy, Dwayne Bravo and Jayden Seales return for them. Narine is out with a niggle.

Josh Clarkson is in for Patriots and Jeremiah Louis will make his debut. Andre Fletcher says they want to entertain the fans in the last game. "People always remember the good things and I hope we can give them something to smile about."

6.50pm Tabraiz Shamsi speaking to the host broadcaster: "They say you've got to peak at the right time in the tournament and we peaked in the first game. There's no weakness in the squad, but nine games and one win is not great. Everybody wants to beat TKR, and we want to leave on a good note. We haven't played good cricket yet, even the game that we won. The players we have within the team, we can beat any team. So we want to spoil their party. You'd expect a lot of doom and gloom but we have good people behind the scenes and we like to keep it light."
