JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) extends warmest congratulations to former West Indies Captain Merissa Aguilleira on her remarkable achievement of receiving the prestigious Hummingbird Medal (HBM) Gold Award at the 2024 National Awards of Trinidad & Tobago. The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday 24th September, at the President's House in St Ann's, Port-of-Spain. CWI President, Dr. Kishore Shallow congratulated the former captain on behalf of the organisation. Dr. Shallow said,

The Hummingbird Medal Gold Award is one of Trinidad & Tobago's highest honours, recognising loyal and devoted service beneficial to Trinidad and Tobago, in any field of human endeavour or for gallantry or other humane action. Merissa was recognised not only for her immense contributions as a Trinidad and Tobago national to the West Indies team, but for her contributions to the sport on the island.

...FORMER Trinidad and Tobago national cricketers Merissa Aguilleira and Navin Stewart are both thrilled to have received the Hummingbird Gold medal national awards at the 2024 National Awards Ceremony, held at President’s House, Tuesday.
Aguilleira, 38, is a former West Indies Women’s captain and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup winner. A dependable wicketkeeper and solid batter, Aguillera played for the West Indies from 2008-2019 and was also a member of 2016 team, which won the International Cricket Council’s T20 Women’s World Cup. “I am deeply honoured to receive the Hummingbird Gold Award. This recognition is not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of the collective dedication and passion of everyone who has supported and believed in me,” stated Aguilleira.
She added: “I remain committed to nurturing the next generation of athletes, fostering opportunities, and continuing to develop a vibrant sporting culture. Thank you to all who have been part of this incredible journey —the best is yet to come!”
