but still have
- dysfunctional board
- poor infrastructure
- no large number of overseas playing cricketers

so why are they succeeding
?

Their cricketers are better than ours.

Most of ours only seem to have the attention span to bat and bowl for 5 overs.

Hope played innings like Mendis at Headingly
Athananze is probably just as talented as any of their batters now

it makes me wonder even if we have
- functional and good board'
- proper infrastructure

we will not be climbing the test ladder

From what a commentator said while SL was playing England a few weeks ago, SL's club and University cricket competitions standards are high. Cricket is well attended there by local fans. In the WI no one attends club cricket and many places club cricket season is very short.

Dayne,I have been posting about our society , we are not supporting our youth at neither the amateur level or the professional, we are more focused on American sports.
I see the Lanlkan has develop their college and university programs and it's their nursery, just like our school boys cricket of yesterday.

for one simple reason, their A SIDE is always engage, they are giving their young players enough exposure (experience) not like us just throwing
our half bake out there to be slaughter

In reply to bird

we have been having frequent A team tours
the boards are pretty much the same
- constant bickering and dysfunctional
- have no monies ( broke)
- and limited exposure to oversea playing ( County cricket etc)

its a lot more than talent because i believe both countries have pretty much the same talent but nurturing is the difference vs Aussies/Pommies/Indians

In reply to allan I still say, the failed ideology of governance which reverberates in WI region has infected WI cricket! I gaan...I see DogPoop run coming fast! razz

That makes no sense. when gayle was captain we were achieving much improved results. We had a charismatic captain, a batsman of perfect technique and unique skills in Ramnaresh Sarwan at #3, a pillar of steel at in shiv chanderpaul, the most naturally gifted west indian pacer since ambrose and holding in Jerome Taylor, a skillful allrounder in Dwayne Bravo. When last has a west indian batsman scored 600 plus runs in a test series? 2009 when ramnaresh sarwan achieved this against broad, anderson, harmison, graeme swann etc. within 3 years, sarwan's career would be over thanks to the mind numbing stupidity of the insecure fools who seem to have a vice like grip on our cricket.

CWI was so dense and dunce that they didn't realize that we had a good crop of players on the horizon, instead of destroying a rapidly improving team. Had that team been allowed to stay together, the pace attack could have looked like this from 2009-2013: jerome taylor, kemar roach, ravi rampaul and shannon gabriel. that is a quartet that the best teams would have struggled against, with bravo chipping in overs when those guys got tired. Jason holder and alzarri joseph would not have to come into a team in constant flux where they have to learn on the job by themselves. there would be older players to show them the ropes. you add jayden seales and shamar joesph and you have a very, very good lineage of quality pacemen. If the team had stayed together, you would have had a batting line up that would have looked like this around 2014/2015: gayle, bharath/keiran powell, ramnaresh sarwan(a specialist number 3), darren bravo, tiger(one of the greatest batsmen of the 21st century, a man for all environments, conditions and bowling), dj, ramdin, and the bowlers. again a lineup that given the opportunity to gel would do very well.

The west indies had the chance to field at least one world beating team since lara's retirement and the board wasted it. Curtly ambrose in an interview in england with Talk Sport said ignorance pervades west indies cricket and therefore hampers it. West Indian cricket administrations do not seem to be able to handle conflict in a rationale or sensible
manner. Most of our issues are self inflicted. We have had two decent administrations since 2019 but skerrit and swallow are dealing with a post apocayptic environment and anybody thinking WI going to have all our issues solved overnight is in a coma
