Chinelle Henry can be one of the best alrounders in the womens game. She bats properly and looks comfortable at the wicket. Plays proper cricket strokes. Her bowling is fabulous. He seam position and ability to move the ball away is spot on. If she gets a touch quicker and learns to seams it bank in, she will be a very difficult bowler to face.

Australia Women vs Pakistan Women, 14th Match,

Where: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai

What to expect: Even with the risk of dew setting in later, which in all honesty is yet to make an impactful appearance, captains are preferring to bat first in Dubai. In five of the six games thus far at the venue, teams have opted to put up a total but only thrice have they succeeded in defending it. In all three night games here, captains have opted to bat.

NRR as the scenario of three teams finishing on 6 points look possible at this stage of the tournament. From the slow low surface of Sharjah, where New Zealand recorded a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka moments ago, we now switch our focus to Dubai where conditions appear slightly better for the batters. This will be Bangladesh's first game in Dubai, and they will be wary of the fact that South Africa won both their games here.

dayne 2024-10-14 16:33:09

Crazy cricket strategy in my opinion. It would have always been hard for Pakistan to score at a run-rate of 11 runs per over, they should have concentrated on winning the game.

Amelia Kerr to Fatima Sana, out Syeda Aroob Shah Run Out!! 1 run completed. Run-out check sent upstairs. Syeda Aroob Shah looks to be gone. It looked like Aroob made it in with a dive but she is just short. Tossed up on middle, Fatima Sana clears her front leg and slices the loft, lands wide and short of Green at long-on, a flat throw after that and Aroob's dive is not enough as Amelia Kerr gets the ball on the bounce and breaks the stumps.

Syeda Aroob Shah run out (Green/Amelia Kerr) 0(3)OUT.

Pakistan lose and I don't know if it is any consolation that they took India down with them. ICC always seem to put India and Pakistan in the same groups for world tournaments

For the semis it's going to be Australia, NZ and two of WI/Eng/SA depending on the result of WI/Eng tomorrow

That wicket means Afy Fletcher has equalled the record for the most wickets for West Indies in a calendar year in T20 internationals, level on 22 with Stafanie Taylor who took that number in 2012.

Prako 2024-10-15 14:59:29

11.1 Dottin to Nat Sciver-Brunt, no run
huge appeal, not given! Fired in full and this finishes on leg stump. Sciver-Brunt swipes across the line and misses, getting pinged on the back leg. Might have pitched outside leg, though. And remember, WI don't have any reviews left...Replays, however, indicate that the ball pitched in line and would have gone on to the stumps. What a moment...

Charlie Dean to Dottin, FOUR, Dottin eases a few nerves in the West Indies camp. It's tossed up on off, turns back in, Dottin sinks low and heaves that, more off a thick inside half, but she has bisected deep square leg and deep mid-wicket to perfection

Charlie Dean to Dottin, SIX, is this the over that has sealed it for West Indies. What batting this from Dottin. No wonder Matthews and the others in the West Indies dugout are shocked and in amazement. Full on off and middle, down goes Dottin on her back knee and this is the cleanest of the three strikes this over, a massive slogsweep and deep mid-wicket just watches the ball sail over her head, such power generated from such a low base

A young boy who is wearing England colors is in tears in the audience. Heather Knight is in tears too. It's the opposite reactions in the West Indies camp. They are screaming, shouting, high-fiving, cheering and what not in joy. Oh sport - such a great leveller. Look at this stat - West Indies had not beaten England in 14 matches and not away from home in 10 years coming into this game. But they have ripped apart all scripts and sent England home with a win for the ages. And it was not a small target that needed to be chased down too - 142.

Hayley Matthews | West Indies Women captain:
Pretty good. I don't think many people had us reaching that point [semis] in this tournament. Up against the odds tonight but to put up a performance like that with the bat, incredibly proud, Qiana Joseph scoring her first ever 50, what a time to do it man. Probably the first six or seven overs of our innings when batting, it did slide on a bit better. We have been chasing, we back ourselves to go out there and knock off whatever runs that is there on the board. Take tomorrow off and get right back to it. We haven't won the World Cup yet and it's gonna be a big game against New Zealand and from here every game is a big game and we are up for the challenge. Pretty close, [to perfection] I think we bowled well, we could have probably fielded better, we are peaking at the right time, hopefully we can see something even better in the semis. [on if she wanted anything more than this in her 100th T20I] Couldn't be any better, this is what I hoped for when I came in today

13th over: West Indies 102-0 (Matthews 49, Joseph 52) Target 142

Oh Maia. Oh mate. This is hard to watch now. Sciver-brunt back into the attack and Joseph goes hard again, Bouchier is on the long off fence, the ball’s face-height, arriving nicely … and she grasses her third chance, hiding face, twisting lips – all the stuff we’ve all done when experiencing shame, horror and fury. Sport is hard.

Tahlia McGrath -
Looks like a nice wicket, quick outfield and runs on the board could be very useful in a knockout game. We're playing the same side that played against India. Nothing changes tonight, we'll have to go out and execute our plans

Laura Wolvaardt -
We will field first. Looks like a fresh wicket, pretty nice and we'll chase. Same team again. It comes onto the bat better in the second half. We're quietly confident coming into the match, they're a quality side and I'm hoping to do well

Schutt to Bosch, FOUR, South Africa and Bosch have done it. They have knocked the mighty mighty Australia out of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Ecstatic are the Proteas while Healy and the Australians wear a glum look on their faces. Fittingly Bosch finishes it off, a juicy full-toss on off and middle, swung away between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket, the latter can't get there and the celebrations begin in the South African camp

In reply to Chrissy

Both sides entered the competition with few backing them to advance beyond the first round. Against the odds, they've quieted early skepticism by toppling the heavyweights in their groups, and now face a crucial showdown to earn a spot in the final. For New Zealand, this is their first semifinal since making the last four in 2016 while West Indies are in a semifinal for the first time since 2018.

Narper 2024-10-18 13:43:48

Good news for West Indies with Stafanie Taylor back in the side

Pitch report | Lydia Greenway and Anjum Chopra:
Temperatures slightly lower than it was at the start. 73 meters down the ground, 59 and 62 to the side. Same pitch used as the first day of the tournament. Highest score on that day was 119. But because it's had a lot of time in the last few days, there's a nice green cover which says the wicket has been rested enough.

2.2
Chinelle Henry to Bates, 1 run, Bates is itching to break free but unable to do so. In fact, a direct hit here would've sent her packing. Back of a length, very wide outside off, she goes after it and flat-bats to mid-off. Very risky single and Bates would've been gone

12.1
Afy Fletcher to Plimmer, out Stumped!! Plimmer gives it away, looked like a premeditated move to step down, maybe Afy Fletcher knew this was coming, shortens the length outside off, Plimmer misses the loft as she is not to the pitch, it turns away too and Campbelle has a simple stumping. Afy Fletcher does a little jig.

Plimmer st Campbelle b Afy Fletcher 33(31) [4s-3 6s-1]

Alleyne to Isabella Gaze, FOUR, the over-rate penalty for West Indies as they are late. One fielder has to be inside the ring and this does not help. A low full-toss down leg, Isabella Gaze sets up for the scoop and gets it just wide of Campbelle, diving to her left. Runs away to the fence. Good start to the over for New Zealand

Superb ball and New Zealand have the early breakthrough they wanted. The star from the previous game for West Indies goes early.

We could have won this match, poor decisions are the result of us losing.

Those Alleyne overs come back to haunt WI

I believe Matthews was too nervous and tentative in dis match....she didn t have the confidence to bowl out her quota...batting never got going...gambled on Alleyne even tho she was expensive...pressure got to her

Hayley made a big blunder again and that was that

There is belief in Alleyne beyond measure

Halliwell 2024-10-18 17:26:13

In reply to doosra

Yeah that the the extra runs right there

Poor Deandra- all she needed was common sense support

doosra 2024-10-18 17:28:23

Ah well

they made the semis

and went further than we thought they would

so close yet so far

dayne 2024-10-18 17:30:57

Good tournament by the WI-W, they exceeded expectations.

doosra 2024-10-18 17:33:17

damn so close
it would hurt a touch more

doosra 2024-10-18 17:34:55

37 dots in the first 10 overs

that was a poor chase, maan

Windiesfan78 2024-10-18 17:36:13

We shouldn't have lost that match, Alleyne didn't add much in batting or bowled well except for her last over. Matthews should have bowled more.

Brerzerk 2024-10-18 17:36:43

In reply to doosra

Top order should have settled in for the deep overs especially knowing Henry not there. They could pull the trigger from 15 ovrs even if 12 per over was needed. I still believe in The Crampy Gayle approach if you know your lower order suspect. Lots of 1's n 2's were there for them

Windiesfan78 2024-10-18 17:36:49

In reply to dayne

Yup, I can agree with that.

Acid 2024-10-18 17:37:14

Hayley said she felt we always had it in our hands

Windiesfan78 2024-10-18 17:46:41

I like Joseph opening with Matthews. These ladies need to play more matches. It is absolutely unfair for the Aussies and English to play far more often, yet our ladies punched above their weight.

Halliwell 2024-10-18 18:23:59

In reply to Windiesfan78

Not their fault
We need to invest more and give them ladies financial security to train whole year

Chrissy 2024-10-18 18:28:14

Hard loss

doosra 2024-10-18 18:30:02

In reply to Halliwell

they are now on central and developmental contracts

for the younger ones without family commitments they would have more time to train - the Munisars, James', etc

things are moving in the right direction

i can't overstate how delighted I am personally to see some improvements in fitness

Hayley has time; she will lead this team to the title in one or more of the next 3 world cups. Good talent in there. They need to find the batters to fill the Dottin and Stafanie sized voids soon.

Great bowling and just ok fielding.
The batting needs a few camps and some hard graft practice. Future is brighter than it was a couple years ago

doosra 2024-10-18 19:17:28

In reply to Halliwell

yea they future is brighter for sure

i noted earlier there are several good young spinners coming thru - 2 from Trinidad, Latchman and a few others from GT, etc

what is indeed needed are some young batters

and Cherry Ann Fraser to fulfil her fast bowling potential....Connell closer to out than in and Henry needs a quick partner

Mlaba to Bates, out Bowled!! Bates tried everything to get on top of Mlaba but it is the bowler who has the last laugh. She is thrilled as she climbs on to Brits who is happy to carry her. This is a flat fast length delivery, the seam was scrambled as it came down, on leg-stump and Bates got inside the line, went low to paddle it away, but missed and the leg-stump is pegged back. Once again Mlaba has a wicket in this tournament.

Congrats NZ. The continued modesty by their ladies is so good.

Narper 2024-10-20 17:29:09

The fireworks go off and the rest of the New Zealand players catch up with Bates and Devine who are impossible to separate at the moment. 37 years, and 35 years old respectively, on the last legs of their careers and it has all been for this moment in Dubai. "We're going to win this thing now," were the prophetic words from Devine after their win against West Indies. And they've been by far the superior side today. 11 losses in a row coming into this tournament. Eleven! But none of that matters. There are tears of joy as the players hug each other. Meanwhile, the wait, the agony and the enduring heartbreak continues for South Africa.
