In terms of the weather, the good news is that it's quite clear at the moment with some cloud cover. The bad news is that there has been rain about - earlier today and in the past few days as well - in fact, one of Sri Lanka's practice sessions in the lead up was washed out. Covers were on, but they're being taken off and we should be on for an on-time start (hopefully).

"The Lions are yet to come back with T20s. It will be a battle with Master Blaster Jayasuriya and the two-time WC winner Daren Sammy. " --- You got that right, Prabhath Aravin. Two novice coaches - both with strong man-management skills - pitting their wits (and the wits of their data analysts) against each other

Sanath Jayasuriya's rise to the position of head coach has been rather more sudden - he's been only in the interim role for around six months - but in that time he's got near-unanimous backing, from the players, administrators and even past players. And much of that is down to the rapport he's built with the players in his short stint thus far

18:34 Local Time, 13:04 GMT, 18:34 IST: Due to the rain earlier, toss has been delayed due to a wet outfield. Stay around for further updates.

18:47 Local Time, 13:17 GMT, 18:47 IST: Looks like there is some drizzle around. We might have a longer delay. The Super Sopper is out in the middle and the groundstaff are getting ready with the covers again. Hopefully we have some positive news soon..

Asalanka:
i would have done the same thing. It's the best time to start and get a good momentum going forward (working towards the 2026 T20 WC.) We are going with a 6-5 combination, we have two all-rounders.

Powell:
We are going to bowl first. The field is on the wet side, hopefully our bowlers can make the most of the conditions. We have been playing well of late. We have two spinners in Chase and Motie. We have Springer

We are done with the national anthems and it's time for live action.

The two Sri Lankan openers are making their way out in the middle as the West Indian players follow them.

Shepherd to Nissanka, out Caught by Shai Hope!! Edged and straight to the keeper. Nissanka throws his head back and walks off. The idea was to cut the ball on the off-side. He didn't move away like last ball but seemed like the balance wasn't great. Ball rose from short of length with some away swing and took the top of edge (actually termed outside edge) of the bat for a regulation take. Big early blow for Sri Lanka

Nissanka c Shai Hope b Shepherd 12(10) [4s-2]

Shamar Joseph to Kusal Perera, out Bowled!! That is a rash shot and Sri Lanka have lost two batters who have had success this year in T20s. SImple good length delivery angling in, seemed like Kusal Perera was through with the slog early. You miss, I hit the ploy from Shamar Joseph and it crashes into the stumps

Kusal Perera b Shamar Joseph 6(3) [4s-1]

Alzarri Joseph to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, another short ball that's not as short as the first over.
4.2
Alzarri Joseph to Kusal Mendis, SIX, oh on the pads and whipped away. Too full down leg, Kusal says thank you for that freebie and flicks it out of sight over backward square leg
