India vs New Zealand, 1st Test - Bengaluru

shivnotout 2024-10-16 03:26:33

"Raining steadily at Chinnaswamy and the square is covered. Difficult to see a start on time at this point".

shivnotout 2024-10-16 03:27:55

With a new skipper at the helm, the Blackcaps look to breach a frontier that no touring team has in over a decade. Their 2-month long Asian odyssey culminates with this 3-match Test series against India and so far, they’ve had little to write home about.

Day 1: Toss delayed due to rain

When: Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 09:30 AM IST

Where: M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

14:30 Local Time, 09:00 GMT:
The inevitable has happened. Play has been called off for the day. It is pouring out there now. It's been that kind of day in Bengaluru unfortunately where clothes don't dry and spirits don't rise. Unusually cold, murky and glum conditions have gripped the city over the past couple of days and it's had the final say on the first day of this Test match

EARLY START FOR DAY 2

All after stumps was called and it stopped raining for a while." Credit to the groundstaff for trying to save some crucial time, they've been working hard all day and this is a heads-up move. Ganesh also adds that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma came out and had a look at the surface.

This will be a toss to win and put the opposition in to take advantage of the atmospheric conditions.

Matt Henry to Sarfaraz Khan, out Caught by Conway!! That's a screamer from Conway at extra cover! Poor shot from Sarfaraz Khan and he's gone for a duck as well! Matt Henry can't believe his luck! Length delivery just outside off, Sarfaraz Khan walked at it and looked to force something, slapped it on the up and got into a horrible position, it hit the bottom edge and lobbed to the right of Conway at extra cover, he sprang to his right and it stuck into his palm as he stretched. Brilliant catch and India are in strife! Sarfaraz Khan c Conway b Matt Henry 0(3)

William ORourke to Kohli, out Caught by Glenn Phillips!! New Zealand couldn't have dreamed of a better start! Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in the shed inside the first hour. Dead silence in the ground as Kohli walks back for a duck! Outstanding bowling and excellent field placement this. Just short of length on off-stump, ORourke gets that little extra bounce because of his height and it nipped back in, Kohli looked to defend off his toes and it caught the top glove before flying towards Phillips at leg gully, was dying on him and he leapt forward and managed to shovel it just before it hit the ground. Great catch and New Zealand are making the most of the conditions here. Kohli c Glenn Phillips b William ORourke 0(9)

6.3
Southee to Rohit, out Bowled!! Knocked him over! Looked like it was only a matter of time before something gave and it did! Full on off-stump, Rohit stepped out looking to negate the swing, it angled in before also nipping back in off the deck, beat the inside edge and went straight through the gate as Rohit went for a big drive. Went on to hit the top of leg-stump. New Zealand get rid of the Indian skippper early. Rohit b Southee 2(16)

Early days yet, however, I think they should have inserted the Kiwis. Time will tell if India were stupid, over confident or both. I still believe with all that inclement weather yesterday the winner of the toss should have bowled.

India misread conditions, trip up against stern examination

It's not often that you see a visiting team have India on the mat like New Zealand did over the first two sessions bowling India out for their lowest-ever Test total (46) at home. Then again, it's not often that you get conditions like these in India.

With the pitch being under covers for nearly two days, a reasonable school of thought was to pick a pace pack that could
exploit the conditions and let them have the first go. India did neither, New Zealand did one of those in picking three pacers and found themselves in a delightful position.

out Stumped!! Oh dear, Jaiswal has thrown it away! Floated up full outside off, Jaiswal sprang out of his crease and ran at this looking to go for a big shot down the ground, it dipped on him and he didn't get to the pitch, also seemed bounce a bit more to beat the outside edge, Blundell did the rest. That's a costly lapse in concentration. The runs were coming quickly enough for India, Jaiswal was probably looking to dominate the spinner and hit him out of the attack. It hasn't worked. He's thrown a good start away and New Zealand have their first breakthrough. Jaiswal st Blundell b Ajaz Patel 35(52)

shivnotout 2024-10-18 10:12:37

No way, you wouldn't believe it! Rohit Sharma doesn't, Virat Kohli doesn't at the other end, nobody in the crowd wants to either. Stunned silence. Length delivery on off-stump, skidded through a touch straighter, Rohit prodded forward and defended off the inner half, he thought he'd played a nice forward defence but the ball ran off the face and bumped into the stumps by the time Rohit realised. He stood there with his head hung down, eventually trudges off. This is a real bonus wicket for New Zealand. Was just looking like India were seizing the momentum. Rohit b Ajaz Patel 52(63) [4s-8 6s-1]

Phillips to Kohli, out Caught by Blundell!! What a timely blow from Glenn Phillips. Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz had just arrested the slide and started to quickly wipe out the deficit. Virat played so well. Blocking, driving and even sweeping. With the very final ball of the day where he looks for survival. To a flatter ball outside off that's not wicket-taking most days, he gets the faintest of edges that even UltraEdge only shows a gentle murmur. Just as India were ending the day on a high this is a huge setback. Virat sees the giant screen and grimaces. Blundell knew as soon as he caught this. Phillips knew as soon as this was caught and was jumping and fist pumping. This a dramatic end to a sensational day's cricket and the end of a great 136-run stand. Kohli c Blundell b Phillips 70(102) [4s-8 6s-1]

Day 5: There was heavy rain in Bengaluru overnight and it's a gloomy start to Day 5 as we enthusiastically await to resume this gripping Test match. However, this message from Ganesh which reads "steady drizzle currently, the ground is under covers" have dampened our spirits.

09:00 Local Time, 03:30 GMT: "We're only about fifteen minutes away from scheduled start but there's not much happening on the ground. Light drizzle at the moment but very overcast. Can't see a start on time from here" is the word from Ganesh.

[quote] Groundstaff starting to remove the covers now. Practice-pitch covers at the edge of the outfield are coming off first. There's to be an inspection at 9:45. Match may start as early as 10:00 says Saba Karim who's at the ground. Forecasts suggest there could be heavy showers again starting at around 11:30.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Rachin Ravindra

A rare loss for India at home. They had a lot going against them in this one but they put up a strong fight. New Zealand become only the third team after England and Australia to win a Test in India since 2013. The Bengaluru weather proved to be New Zealand’s 12th man.

I need to have a look at NZ runs on the 1st day after the Kiwi rout of India. Dem men so dominate World Cricket that even on Willow the skipped the 1st day replay.
Only a clip of Henry's 5fer you can see. But, replays of every single other day and those of many other games are available!
