Good morning all ! Wagon hit some potholes here! Two wick wickets! Two ugly dismissals by King and now Athanaze. Athanaze advances but gets beaten in the flight by the googly! Essy stumping. Intent was good, execution and timing poor. Should have played him out a bit.

Rutherford is proving to everybody that he's the best allrounder in the Caribbean,he shows the rest how to negotiate Asian spin, something the rest cannot do.I would like to say though, why was de Silva wasn't on the tour,he probably plays spin better than the lot,I also look forward to seeing Carty on our test team.

Rain has stopped

dayne 2024-10-20 13:43:20

Yes, Rutherford is one of the better batters of spin bowling in the WI team, he is building up a repetition of rescuing the WI after a top order collapse.

Windiesfan78 2024-10-20 13:49:30

Rutherford can probably play test cricket as well. I think he is quite talented and has been in good form of late. On that note, I would take a draw today. Let us try to see to see if we can win one of the last two.

Seechy 2024-10-20 14:09:47

In reply to granite

With Rutherford doing well in the middle order, it'll be hard for the likes of Hetty and Pooran to find a way back in if they wanted to.

19:40 Local Time, 14:10 GMT, 19:40 IST:
Farveez Maharoof, who is one of the on-air commentators for this game, has tweeted that the drizzle is back on. That's unfortunate as the inspection was only five minutes away. The waiting game continues. It's likely that WI might not get to bat again if and when play resumes.

Narper 2024-10-20 14:23:17

19:50 Local Time, 14:20 GMT, 19:50 IST: The drizzle stopped a while back. Umpire's inspection is going on right now

20:05 Local Time, 14:35 GMT, 20:05 IST:

The live broadcast shows that play will resume at 8.23pm. We have confirmation that the West Indies' innings is over.

Sri Lanka need to chase 232 in 37 overs according to DLS method.

Narper 2024-10-20 14:58:09

West Indies's innings is over and they'll now defend 232 off 37 overs. Two bowlers can bowl 8, three others can bowl a maximum of 7 overs each. The players are out in the middle, think the first PP could be 8 overs.

Nishan Madushka and Avishka Fernando are at the crease.

Nishan Madushka is on strike.

Jayden Seales will open the attack

0.1
Jayden Seales to Nishan Madushka, no run, very full and at the stumps, a hint of swing back into the right-hander, Madushka shuffles across and jams it to mid-on

Narper 2024-10-20 15:01:16

Narper 2024-10-20 15:02:18

1.1
Alzarri Joseph to Avishka Fernando, FOUR, cracking shot, back of a length and well wide of off - Avishka stands tall and gently punches it into the gap wide of mid-off, long chase for the fielder, but he comes second best

Narper 2024-10-20 15:03:55

Gawn !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.3
Alzarri Joseph to Avishka Fernando, out Caught by Roston Chase!!

Avishka Fernando c Roston Chase b Alzarri Joseph 5(7) [4s-1]

Narper 2024-10-20 15:08:50

2.2
Jayden Seales to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, beautifully played, too short and too wide of off, Kusal gets on top of the bounce and then chops it into the gap wide of cover, no need to run for those

Narper 2024-10-20 15:12:16

2.6
Jayden Seales to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, nicely played, Mendis is off and running, too straight from Seales - on the pads and it's whipped past mid-wicket for a boundary

brians_da_best 2024-10-20 15:13:09

Joseph strikes again.

Narper 2024-10-20 15:13:31

3.2
Alzarri Joseph to Kusal Mendis, out Caught by Shai Hope!! Alzarri has two now and the crowd has been silenced. Banged in short and at the body, hurried onto Mendis who found himself in an awkward position on the pull, hit high on the bat and lobbed straight up - Shai Hope has plenty of time to get under and he completes a simple catch. Just the start West Indies needed, they've taken the momentum with the bat to the ball now.

Kusal Mendis c Shai Hope b Alzarri Joseph 13(cool [4s-3]

Narper 2024-10-20 15:22:49

4.6
Jayden Seales to Samarawickrama, FOUR, edged and four, soft hands from Samarawickrama as he ran it through the vacant slip region, on a length and just outside off, the right-hander let the ball come and then played with a slightly open face, didn't mean to go fine, but he'll take the boundary

4.4
Jayden Seales to Samarawickrama, FOUR, lovely, on a length and angling into the pads, Samarawickrama lets the ball come, uses Seales's pace and then clips it wide of mid-wicket, no need to run for those
4.3
Jayden Seales to Samarawickrama, 2 runs, did it carry to cover-point? Think it bounced in front of him - fuller length delivery and well wide of off, Samarawickrama was sucked into the drive and couldn't control it, went uppishly and towards the fielder who dived forward
4.2
Jayden Seales to Samarawickrama, FOUR, beautifully played, a leg-stump half-volley and Samarawickrama has whipped it over square leg, bounces away to the ropes in a hurry

6.1
Motie to Nishan Madushka, 1 run, tossed up on off, driven down to long-off for a single
Gudakesh Motie, Left arm orthodox, comes into the attack

brians_da_best 2024-10-20 15:29:39

motieeeeeee

What a ball!!!!

Narper 2024-10-20 15:29:57

6.2
Motie to Samarawickrama, no run, turn for Motie, that'll encourage him, drifts in, lures Samarawickrama forward and then spun past the outside edge

BOWLED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6.3
Motie to Samarawickrama, out Bowled!! That's a beauty and Samarawickrama has been cleaned up. The ;ast ball planted a seed of doubnt in Samarawickrama's mind, but this was another corker. Pitched on a similar length around off, Samarawickrama didn't get a big stride forward as he looked to defend, but the ball gripped and turned, past the flat-footed right-hander and crashed into the off-stump. Motie is off in delight as Samarawickrama trudges off in dismay

Samarawickrama b Motie 18(12) [4s-3]

8.4
Motie to Nishan Madushka, 1 run, fraction short on middle and leg, Madushka shuffles across and then flicks it uppishly towards mid-on, the ball drops short of him and he fumbles, allowing a run
8.3
Motie to Asalanka, 1 run, tossed up just outside off, flicked to the left of mid-wicket, the fielder makes a half-stop and can't prevent the single

Narper 2024-10-20 15:43:29

8.5
Motie to Asalanka, FOUR, beautifully played, too full and too wide from Motie - Asalanka gets a good stride forward, converts it into a halfvolkey and that allows him to drive against the turn, into the gap wide of mid-off for a boundary

Roston Chase to Nishan Madushka, FOUR, clubbed, flighted delivery outside off - Madushka gets a good stride across, rolled his wrists and then swept it powerfully past square leg - Seales got across in the deep, but he's unable to prevent it from racing to the ropes

Motie to Nishan Madushka, out Caught by Brandon King!! Was the in-drifter from round the wicket, pitched on middle and straightened to open Nishan Madushka in his stance. He pushed at it with hard hands and the outside edge flew behind. King got low to take it but wasn't sure whether that carried to him. It's taken upstairs by the on-field umpires to check for the clarity of the catch. The third umpire has a few looks at the replays and confirms that King had his finger's underneath the ball. Right call that. Can WI make a comeback?

Shai Hope | WI captain:

It's something we can't control, we have to focus on what we can focus on, have to make sure we do well in the next game. The guys showed a bit of intent at the backend of the innings. Sherfane played really well. It was challenging, I firstly don't bowl many balls, we have to do better next time and find ways to get wickets

Narper 2024-10-20 17:44:22

Charith Asalanka | SL captain and PoTM:
Thank you so much, it was a convincing win and we batted really well. First, my plan was to attack from the outset, played with a positive mindset. I think me and Nishan batted well. I think more than 15 overs we got a chance with the wet ball, they couldn't grip the ball properly and myself and Nishan did well. It's a headache for us but I like that, it's a positive headache.
