15:16 Local Time, 09:46 GMT, 15:16 IST: Some good news - covers are off.

West Indies (Playing XI):
Alick Athanaze, Brandon King, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope(w/c), Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, Hayden Walsh, Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph
Sri Lanka (Playing XI):

Sri Lanka have won the toss and have opted to field
Match reduced to 44 overs due to rain
We have to adapt and assess conditions quickly and play well. We have to make sure we play better cricket, if you assess our cricket from the last few months, we need to do better in all departments. Same team.
Charith Asalanka:
We are going to bowl first. The reason is the weather conditions, that's why we are bowling first. I would like to do better from the bowling side. Theekshana comes in for Vandersay
Same pitch as the last game. It is abrasive and more grass cover. It looks a good batting surface. We will get some swing and also there will be turn for the spinners.
Brandon King and Athanaze are at the crease.
Brandon King is on strike.
Theekshana will open the attack

Asitha Fernando, right-arm fast medium, comes into the attack
1.3
Asitha Fernando to Brandon King, FOUR, to long-off
2.3
Theekshana to Brandon King, FOUR, width outside off and flayed away. It's a slower and tossed up offie outside off, Brandon King gets forward and drives square and beats cover-point to his right
2.5
Theekshana to Athanaze, out Bowled!! Superb ball and Athanaze is cleaned up. No wonder Theekshana is jumping and punching the air in joy. It's tossed up and drifts into middle, lands on a length and brings Athanaze forward, sharp spin away after that, it rips and goes past the outside edge, hits the top of off-stump. Dream delivery and Athanaze can only hear the sound of timber.

This Athanaze experiment would end in similar fashion......Mayers...

Asitha Fernando to Brandon King, out Caught&Bowled!! That's a good short ball and Brandon King is surprised, goes back to pull and he is rushed, splices it straight back and Asitha Fernando takes it and roars in King's face. That reared up and cramped King for pace. Sri Lanka have two early wickets

Asitha Fernando to Shai Hope, out Bowled!! Knocked him over. Big wicket and now West Indies in trouble. It's a short of length delivery on off, nips back in a tad, Shai Hope looks to push and the thick inside edge rattles back on.

Sherfane Rutherford, left handed bat, comes to the crease
5.5
Asitha Fernando to Rutherford, no run
7.2
Asitha Fernando to Keacy Carty, FOUR, beautiful shot. Fullish just outside off, Keacy Carty opens the face of the bat and punches it hard and wide of cover-point, races away
Big appeal for LBW and turned down. Sri Lanka review. No bat. Hit on the back pad, but impact is just outside off.
8.2
Theekshana to Keacy Carty, no run, great decision by umpire Ahsan Raza. Sri Lanka lose a review. Sharp offie and it turns back a long way from outside off, Keacy Carty goes on the back foot to cut, thinking it is there for the cut, the length is short but the turn foils the shot, the back pad just about gets outside off as he misses the shot, Sri Lanka were very confident and reviewed, but Raza is proven right
8.3
Theekshana to Keacy Carty, out Bowled!! Superb offie and Keacy Carty has no clue this time. It pitches outside off, on a good length and it turns back sharply, Keacy Carty goes on the back foot to defend, leaves a slight gap between bat and pad

Wellalage to Rutherford, no run, Sri Lanka now have no reviews left. Too much turn and missing leg-stump. It's tossed up outside off, Rutherford turns around for a big reverse-sweep and misses, hit in line on the back thigh, but too much turn
Loud appeal for LBW turned down. Sri Lanka review. Not out.

Wellalage to Rutherford, FOUR, to long-off

Hasaranga to Roston Chase, out Bowled!! Wicket first ball after drinks! It was a superb googly from Hasaranga and Roston Chase was beaten all ends up. Leaned closer to drive at this full, flighted delivery outside off, the ball turned back in and there was a gaping hole between pad and bat. The ball sneaks through and disturbs the stumps.

Theekshana to Hayden Walsh, no run, pushed through quicker and onto leg stump, gets a bit of extra bounce and goes over Walsh's attempted sweep. Cops a blow on his chest and then the ball deflects onto his face. Needs a quick concussion check but he seems fine
14.4
Theekshana to Hayden Walsh, out Bowled!! Castled! A flat delivery that goes on with the arm, Hayden Walsh attempted a reverse sweep and got nowhere close to the line of the ball as it came back quickly towards him. Misses his shot and his leg stump is a mess. Tried to be too cute against a straight ball and ends up losing his wicket!

Asitha Fernando to Rutherford, no run, dropped!! A length ball that is fired hard onto the deck. Rutherford clears the front leg for a big heave and ends up skying it a big distance. Long-on comes in and settles under it but puts down a dolly. The batter had thrown his bat away and wasn't even looking at the ball, was ready to walk off...

Partnership: 50(48 )
The West Indies team has always been stronger with Guyanese players and we saw this years ago when Chanderpaul and Sarwan used to have really good partnerships. Motie should have been in the West Indies team a long time ago and right now is one of our most consistent players. Also, he plays in all formats which will continue to strengthen his game. Rutherford has also done quite well and I hope it continues.

Asalanka to Rutherford, SIX, on a length and slow onto middle and leg, Rutherford rocks back and pulls it powerfully through deep square leg for six. That's his fifty, what a superb crisis man he's beginning to become for West Indies!!
In reply to Jumpstart
I am saying this as a Bajan, Clive Lloyd, 2 World Cups as captain, chased down the highest test total score in a second innings with Chanders and Sars who had a strong partnership in the innings. Also, we won the ICC Champions Trophy with Guyanese in the team. The fact of the matter is that the West Indies has always been stronger with Guyanese in the team and I stand firm on that stance.

Jumpy and music find it difficult to give credit where it is due unless the player is from T&T. I said it before and I will say it again, I don't care who represents the West Indies once the selection is fair and the players are the best in the region.

Asitha Fernando to Rutherford, out Caught by Wellalage!! Finally the wicket! Finally Sri Lanka hold on to a catch! Full toss on the thighs, flicked towards deep backward square leg and Wellalage takes the catch while skirting with the boundary ropes. He maintains solid composure so close to the boundary and finally Sri Lanka get the breakthrough. Wellalage's back boot was centimetres from the ropes, some angles infact deceive to make it look like he made contact, but the third umpire reckons the boundary ropes haven't been distrubed so gives it out. End of a fine, fine innings from Sherfane Rutherford, he has resurrected this innings from the dead for West Indies!

Sri Lanka won by 5 wkts (Match reduced to 44 overs due to rain)
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Maheesh Theekshana
I was not in the XI when we left the hotel, thanks to rain I got a chance. Got lucky and thanks to the captain and coach, happy to contribute. The new ball is not easy to play, it is easier when the ball gets old. Enjoy both T20 and ODIs
I really don't like to focus on things we can't control. What we can control is our performance and our processes, and today was a poor performance. We need to play spin well, show more intent because we play a lot of dot balls. We don't put enough revs on the ball, we bowl too quickly. Need to take a leaf out of the Sri Lankan spinners.
It is a very good thing for us. Guys are doing really well and hope to continue. (On picking Theekshana) Main reason was weather and there were reduced overs. He is a world-class bowler and I wanted to play him. Enjoying my role at number 5, I have a big role and wanted to do well.
