You say gorgeous, I say good.

Why...

Play to far in front and away from him.
Not under the eyes where one will have maximum control.
Front leg too far from the ball.
Back leg not bent enough.

The issue with you non-cricketers is that you are too easily impressed.

Nonetheless, great result from the shot.
Good shot, not great shot as some here may believe.
Too many flaws in our top batsmen.
Thus the inconsistency.

Boy you harsh! Good analysis from a cricketer so I will take it.

I admired him for his ability to survive a stern test from the opening bowlers but true to form he gave it away. He is not ready for prime time at least not mentally. Justin Greaves looks the part.

I agree with Tante. That gap was a little too wide and if that ball had any side movement, dog eat his supper. Those defects were saved by the absolutely perfect timing.

Quite right with your observation and good critique. King's technique has become
faulty and his rfegression to those who saw him when he was exclusively
a red ball player at the FC level ,is stark.
Because he has played exclusively white ball cricket for the past few seasons,. he no longer
uses his feet or play consistently more behind the ball rather than beside it to generate power and
slog which is the norm in the white ball,especially T20 variety.
Needless to say he is not as tight and correct as he once was when almost everyone saw him as a
Test player in the making.
Can't blame him as he is basically a white ball player now. He still has the ability to adjust but he is being shown up
when he encounters very good to high quality bowling...his dismissals against left arm spinners,leave me
swearing sometimes.
However he still executes some good shots well as there are glimpses of what he showed as the young batter.
I no longer hold out hope for him to be good at Test level but I hope he will prove me wrong emphatically.
The one thing I would like to see him do is play more with his wrists. That used to be a trademark of
his in early days especially in on side play.
But he has it in him to excel is he chooses to in any format. He has the talent but his skills and technique must come to the
fore at all times.

He needs to play more 4-day FC matches as a start

Where? And against what bowling?

BTW……so many posters insist that players need to play FC cricket to tighten and improve technique etc to be able to play at “the highest level” against “quality bowling”.

I am not a cricket coach,
however, I can see these glaring flaws.

Where are the bating/bowling coaches.

No wonder Windies are so inconsistent.

Wonderful hand-eye coordination and picking of length and line. BUT, ever since I started posting here I've pointed out that these guys make connection and pose and we say they are good bats with no analysis. Were bat and front pad close together at the point of contact. Do they press and or have a good trigger whether back n across or otherwise. Do they play on the up too often rather than crouched. Very often I used Hope as my example and why he is not successful in tests where there's an arc from keeper to point and why he gets caught there often. Then when he tries to avoid that he is struck in front.

Thing is...there are supremely talented cricketers ..and other sportsmen too who defy the textbook and put their own spin on the game based on their own biomechanics and mental disposition. That is why some textbook looking cricketers underachieve and some apparently more creative guys overachieve.

Some of the latter include:

Gayle - Leadfooted the experts say?
Viv - Hit across the line ?
Lara- Back lift too high....when he made adjustments against McGrath by walking across the stumps...the experts also nuff to say.

There aren't many more successful cricketers in their respective generations than the above


On the other hand...very few players played textbook looking shots than Hooper and Ganga.

The shot was a great shot because it was controlled, came off the middle of the bat and pierced the field..going exactly where he wanted it to go. Everything else is noise.

I was here being humbled cause I too saw a nicely timed shot going exactly where King wanted it to go.

Notwithstanding all that Tante has put forward...that shot ...for that delivery was bang on.

Can you recount how many players who were not technically correct were great or had extended careers.

On the other hand, how many great players played mostly correct.

Example; Shiv stance was off-book;
however, when he played his shots, he was in correct position despite his ugly stance.

Sir Viv hit across the line many times;
however, his timing was impeccable and he could play textbook at will.

I can go on forever, but let me end it by saying,
analyst will look at these flaws and direct bowlers to get batsmen like King out.

Imaging the ball moving in slight and King would be bowled off the inside edge.
I'm not faulting king.
I love him as a batsman and Windies player.

I will like to see these flaws corrected to ensure a chance of consistence.

You pundits can continue to praise such shots but count me out.
That shot had a great result and nothing else.
His results will speak for him ether way.
I am hoping that he improves.

Noise if we restrict our thoughts to that single shot. A thinking bowler will see the gap. He'll try for a delivery same line Lil bit shorter (back of a length) nipping back. Viv across the line- Watch the vids, he gets in line bat and pad close together then rolls the wrists and turns to leg even from outside off. Completely different scenario from this discussion. Viv played through off with superb, technique; King above no!

When I saw the shot during the game I said shot of the inning! Now based on the technical aspects of the shot you understand why Brandon only 28.97 after 41 innings. Branond is naturally an orthodox player so to compare him with Viv , Shiv and Gayle is not understanding his natural inclination. If he goes away from that he loses his shape and looks out of sorts as it is not his natural tendency. If you watched the totality of the innings Brandon was struggling to get ball on bat all game and that was the one shot that he middled.

He needs a big score in the next two games . Personally he needs to get back to FC and spend more time at the crease.

Yup!

Basil Butcher had a very successful test career but have you all seen his backlift,it started with his bat pointing at 3rd slip,his bat met the ball coming from that position in a circular motion.I saw it in a cricket book and later saw it on a TV show.

The Real elephant in the room is - Have the coaches been pointing these things out to King and respective players alike?

Holistically its the entire Region we want to see benefit from this kind of "helpful critique"
