Luusener is a legend of yesteryear but is he really better than nowadays T20 hitters?

He last played 20 years ago and was striking in ODIs what the greats of the modern ODI game are striking....he did not play T2Ois (internationals) ...it came just after his time but I have no doubt he would have been one of the t20 greats given his club t20 numbers are excellent--- in 50+ games he was striking at 136 with an avg of 35 or so....fast forward today and that would have been even better with all the development of bats etc

i can't now remember myself but even in regular games he was a finisher...and the hardest hitter of that ball during his time

of all the players I have seen, only Gayle has that power

Can you remember Ball Oil [Keith Glasgow} in Guyana in the 70s.... Bourda fans would go wild wid his hitting ... T 20 would have been perfect for him

klusener is the prototype for these t20 hitters. the first set of t20 stars, gayle and pollard to kohli would have been teenagers and very young cricketers when the 1999 world cup came around and zulu changed cricket. i have no doubt he inspired them

In my opinion Sanah Jayasurya in ODIs was more of an influence to the Gayles , Pollards and Kohlis

Sehwag was also a madmad wid de bat.

Probably on Gayle because he’s a bit older, but pollard would have been 8 going on 9 in 1996. In 1999 he would have been 12. Kohli would have been around the same age as well. Speaking of which, I now realize how disorganized the World Cup is. 1987, 1992, 1996, 1999. Ent this tournament was supposed to be held every four years. They was just having world cups when they felt like it in the 90s?

ALSO....My point is after the 1996 WC....this ODI batting approach especially in the 1st 15 overs was adopted by many countries.
And also.....Jayasurya played for years after

nice article here

That’s true. Jayasuriya really hurt India and Australia in that World Cup. I didn’t see it though. I do know the crowd at Eden Gardens were very quiet when Jayasuriya started to hit from ball one. They didn’t expect that at all

You are right about Jayasuriya. I believe it was SL and their openers who first started to go after the bowling…hitting over the top…in the first 15 overs of ODIs

no, they changed it to even numbers in 1992 1st was '75 then '79, 83, 87. I think Champions' Trophy may have helped to decide the change.
