As Bangladesh prepare to take field in the tour game preceding the two-Test rubber in the Caribbean, they will be starting a Test series without Shakib Al Hasan, for the first time in 18 years.

Shakib is one of the seven players with the double of 4000+ runs and 200+ wickets in Test cricket and his positive difference between batting and bowling averages is only bettered by Garfield Sobers and Jacques Kallis, two legends considered the greatest all-rounders to have graced the game. Shakib is one of the two spinners on the list, the other being Daniel Vettori.

All-rounders aggregating the double of 3000+ runs and 150+ wickets across a span of 50 (or fewer) consecutive Tests in their career (an average of 60 runs & three wickets per match) - Garfield Sobers, Ian Botham, and Shakib.

Shakib has done so over 25 overlapping 50 (or fewer) Test sequences - same as Sobers - while Botham done it 16 times. What makes Shakib's achievement standout is the fact that Bangladesh plays far less frequently compared most other teams which would mean him having to sustain the form across both disciplines over longer periods, which the southpaw has done with aplomb.
