HEADLINE: Chase to bolster Pride squad for semifinal clash
CaribbeanCricket.com
2024-11-19 14:26:14
THE BARBADOS Pride will have the services of West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase when they face defending champions Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in the first semifinal of the Regional Super50 tomorrow.
Chase was previously unavailable, as he was part of the West Indies squad that played England in the just-concluded One-Day International and T20I series which ended on Sunday.
While Chase’s addition will be welcomed, Barbados will be without their captain Kyle Mayers as well as Kadeem Clarke, who have been granted leave to take part in the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 tournament.
“The national selection panel has confirmed that Roston Chase and Shian Brathwaite will join the Barbados Pride squad as replacement players for Kadeem Alleyne and Kyle Mayers respectively,” the Barbados Cricket Association stated in a press release yesterday.

Are Lewis and Pooran playing for TT to even up that imbalance? Chase is likely to be much more useful than Myers was

Pooran and Lewis heading to Abu Dhabi.
Chase will most likely be available for one match... he will be playing in the GSL.

chase was never a decent batsman. looked okay sometimes on slow low wickets in the west indies. looked awful like most of the other wi players when he travelled. I mean he does not average over 30 in test cricket or odis.

Chase was never a batsman? The dude got a FC average of 43... how many batsmen in the region got a 40+ average?
You calling for Goolie, Jangoo and Greaves to be Kraigg replacement in another thread... which one of them got a better FC average than Chase?
Yes to date he underperformed at the international level but yuh can't seh d man was never a batsman when his numbers are better that all de guys you calling to be in the squad.

Did you miss the part where I mentioned that he has underperformed at the international level to date?
Greaves got a FC average of 27.. the others low 30s.

our fc competition is absolute rubbish. it falls right in the middle of the west indies away tours and as a result, the best players are never available. its a toss up between the upcoming players like jangoo and co and the dregs like devon smith and verasammy permaul.
Did you miss the part where I mentioned that he has underperformed at the international level to date?
hooper and samuels underperformed. they average 36 and 38 respectively. 26 aint underperforming breds. that is being found out

So if the FC competition is rubbish and those guys still can't average in the 40s... do you honestly think they will do better at the international level?
As for Hopper and Samuel's... the region isn't producing talents like that anymore so we need to lower our expectations. If a WI batsman average over 30 these days at the international level it's considered nuff.

sarwan and gayle both average over 40. They played in the last 25 years. Darren bravo, after a CWI-induced stop-start still averages more than kraigg, hope, chase...all the passengers he was carrying while there. Marlon samuels, despite his 36 career average, averaged just under 50 for the last 6 years of his career from 2011 t0 2016, scoring runs against the very best attacks as well as the mediocre. in fact in 2011 and 2012, marlon could lay claim to being one of the best test batsmen in the game

which means that wen he doesn't score a hundred, he scores nothing if his avg is 26. 5 hundreds in 90 innings is exceptionally poor

I consider Gayle great, Sarwan above average, and I will not discuss Darren.
With over a thousand cricketers that have represented the territories in the last 25 years, you named three and continue to pair Barbadian cricketers' stats to get your point across.
I asked you this question during this year's CPL: Why are Barbadian cricketers being selected more than any other region on regional teams, with Barbadians contracted on every team in the CPL?
In 1975, one of the greats reminded me that cricket in Barbados is an amateur sport. Having played in the BCA, I got it.
Clubs rely on membership dues, once you can afford it, you don't have to worry about being dropped.
There is no competing for playing positions within the club structure anymore; a player just moves to another club.
Promotion and demotion are good with large populations. Also, an Elite and 1st division will add nothing to the product; it is just bragging rights for the old members of the clubs.
Barbados cricket will rise again.

they are mentioned because only two other players in the last 25 years have played a similar amount of tests...ganga played 48 and devon smith played 43. hinds played 43. and devon smith, hinds and ganga oscillated around gayle so they rarely had uncontested extended runs in wi colors. for example, ganga looked good in South Africa in 1998, even if the runs weren't there, but found himself out the team in favor of lincoln roberts, dave joseph and suruj ragunath(a team jimmy adams said was given to lara who was told to captain it or else) for the next series versus Australia months later. Because of politics, and west indies exiling an entire generation of players, hope, kraigg and chase got extended runs. Kraigg himself was fourth in line when he first came into an understrength wi team:bharath, gayle and powell were all before him.
I asked you this question during this year's CPL: Why are Barbadian cricketers being selected more than any other region on regional teams, with Barbadians contracted on every team in the CPL?
maybe because they're cheap. i certainly don't understand how Shaqkere Parris could play for TKR when both jangoo and goolie were available. And on that topic, TT for years was keeping cpl afloat: evin lewis played one season with tkr, rayad emrit never played for tkr, neither did jon russ jaggessar. pooran took almost a decade to return to tkr. ramdin, simmons, perkins and narine were with GAW for years

every team had trinidadians because the ct20 was so uncompetitive and the competition would not be taken seriously if every team did not maintain a particular standard. of the xi that played the final of the last 2013 CT20 in february 2013, only three played for the red steel when they debuted that year: the two bravos and badree.

We all watched the Standford series.
What I learned during that time was the unprofessionalism of players.
Stanford, who owned the Antigua team, set up rules like in the USA sporting affiliations, it got so bad with players owning the Antigua franchise every month that they had to stop the rules.

You can see the talent in the region; it is going take a strong leader with a vision to move our cricket forward.
As far as the fans in the Windward and Leewards, they are part of the problem.
No one cares about breaking that partnership, I saw several players from Dominica who should be playing in regional cricket for Dominica.
Not the Windward Islands.
The same could be said for Antigua and St. Kitts; these Islands should be playing in the regional tournament.
I am not sure how teams from these regions have been selected since the discontinuation of the Windwards and Leeward Island tournaments.
