Average of 47.6 and dropping fast.
At this rate it’ll plummet to under 45 before the series is done

Kohli a test great?
In reply to brians_da_best
You asking answers
Commentators stated an incredible statistic as he came to the crease.
In spite of his recent lack of production, for the past 5 years. Kohli averages 124….THATS RIGHT…..ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR against fast bowlers bowling 140 kmh plus.
I have no idea who keeps a statistic like that, or how accurate it is, but if it’s true…..THAT IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!!

Where is that guy who used to worship Kohli and diss Lara
In reply to imusic
That seems so meaningless

Kohli is a test great undoubtedly. Yes he going down…… in the end age beats us all and the pressure he has played under is unreal. In fact it is greater than Tendulkar’s because whereas SRT played in a side that did not win away from home and weren’t expected to win away from home, and therefore his pressure was simply to score a hundred, Kohli has carried the weight of a lineup way inferior to himself( overrated Rohit dharma has never scored a hundred outside of India in England once and in the WI woth Holder as captain, nuff said), captained the team to an unprecedented win in Australia leading with the bat again. Kohli is undoubtedly a test great

Certainly a great in my view even if his career ends mid to upper 40s.
What is great, because there are greats like Sangakarra and Hayden and McGrath and greats like Tendulkar and Lara and Warne.
If is middle level great then by all means yes.
If is immorality level great then maaan give me a break!
Music, the fast bowling statistic is like sarge. Ta ta. Imagine if Oshane Thomas and Tino Best throwing balls at you whole day. Careful with them niche in contextual ‘records’. They mean little on their own in a whole innings.
With the proliferation of T20, T10, even T5 cricket around the world, Test batting Averages are plummeting. Batsmen are more loose in their techniques and lapses in concentration. Those who play Tests cricket would be better at adapting to T20, but by the same token, the habits of T20 batting creep into their batting approach and diminish their technique.

Very interesting point of view.

If is immorality level

For me Great players average 50+
Very good players average 40 - 49

So Kanhai was very good but not great?
In reply to imusic
Exactly
In reply to brians_da_best
Kohli is probably the only batsman to average close to, or above 50, in all three formats of the game for over a decade. What's not great about that!
In reply to imusic
Rohan Kanhai was a genius stroke-maker who played shots that was never been seen before with an average close to 50. I don’t know if Kanhai was a player who cared much about averaging when he batted. He had all the ability to have gotten a higher average if that was his goal. I would consider Kanhai a great.
Clive Lloyd was another player who averaged under 50 but should be considered a great. Regarded as one of the greatest captains of all time with two World Cups and a winning record for over a decade. He was no slouch in the field or with the bat.

Clive Lloyd is a great captain
He was a great fielder
He was a good batsman
In reply to imusic
Unless we are talking specifically about only batting, as you have pointed out, all of the above made Clive Lloyd a great cricketer,
In reply to XFactor
Only he doesn’t average over 50 in 2 of those three formats
In reply to Jumpstart
Wait, Kohli is a great but Steve is overrated?
Ok, bro.
In reply to brians_da_best
Yeah but for argument sake, he does!

My take ...
Stats are important.....be it bowler or batsman....
Bowlers having average between 20-25....
Batters average above 50....
The impact a player has.....not only upon the team he plays for but also cricket fraternity.....
But, that was in era gone by......
Now, with 3 formats.....so much cricket... specially T20.... very few players play all three formats....
Virat Kohli.....has excel in all three formats..... although his test average has gone south....that has happened with the best...... Roots average became less than 50 few years back.... Williamson also.....but they recovered...
Whether, Kohli finishes with average 50 or 45.... doesn't take away the fact that he changed the face of Indian cricket.... with his batting prowess, his aggression....on field aura..... something Viv, used to have...
Whenever, Indian cricket would be talked about.... Kohli's name would surely find place....
You all look so foolish now
100 in your head

Sorry I missed that live

No. For some greatness is reserved for players from our region only. I once had a chap in NewYork go to great lengths explaining why Gayle was great but Tendulkar was not. Needless to say, it was our last cricket discussion.
