CWI SUPER 50 FIASCO- CWI INCOMPETENCE
Emir

This is no way to treat the players, as of now CWI has been has not said a word. Where else in the world, will our premier ODI tournament operate like this?
Rules and protocol are well defined for rain out situations like these, is that too much for CWI?
It was understood that both teams refused to take the toss after the over four-hour delay owing to excessive rain, forcing the match to be forfeited by the two nations.
It is now left up to the media to speculate.
No champion was crowned and it is expected that Cricket West Indies (CWI) will release a statement on the official outcome of the match.
Lots of Questions and no CWI

The match was initially scheduled to bowl off at 1pm but because of heavy, continuous rain, the covers only came off just after 5pm for a pitch inspection.
Umpires, officials and team captains Raymond Reifer (Barbados) and John Campbell (Jamaica) were seen deliberating for a lengthy period. The stumps were erected on either side of the pitch but there was little movement from either of the teams’ dugouts.
And despite CWI confirming the latest possible start time at 6.17pm, neither team looked ready to take the field.
Just after 6.30pm, the players from each team began shaking each other’s hands before retreating to their respective dressing rooms.

Don't worry, no sleep was lost. No announced position because no confirmed position.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Did they cancel your wager?

They should have had a reserve day in place for this type of scenario.

In reply to WICFan In the 1970s there was a Geddes Grant 50 over final between Jamaica and the Combined Islands that had a similar conclusion. (plus ca change).

Now the world laughing at us. Maybe, that is.
Cricket final ends without a winner after neither captain turns up for toss
A cricket tournament in the West Indies ended without a winner after both teams forfeited the match.
Barbados Pride and Jamaica Scorpions were set to face off in the final of the Super50 Cup in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
Rain reduced the game from 50 to 20 overs, but the two teams refused to play over apparent safety concerns, and the captains failed to appear for a rearranged coin toss.

Seems the default consensus here is that there should have been a reserve day.
Like these reserve days are immune to the elements and play is guaranteed ......

Old news
I see. So Barbados wanted to host the tournament and were beaten out by T&T?
The tournament was hosted by T&T YET AGAIN…..because Barbados in particular refuses to host regional tournaments. They only want to host when England and Australia come to the Caribbean, or when there is a prestigious tournament like the World Cup.
Then they eager to host.
Everything else beneath them.
And they not alone. Nobody else steps up to host regional tournaments. T&T bails out the region in this regard on a regular.

Maybe Prez Ali may take time off of hosting Global leagues to host a regional tournament next year.

The Directors of CWI led by reps from Yard and Bim are duly bound to overturn this fuckery and reward the two teams who fought long and hard to reach the finals with the combined prizes of winner and runners up. The law clearly is an ass here. The two teams should be declared joint winners because of force majeure.

Man, you seem to have taken Sudden work- "force majeure", love the term, use regularly in Construction.

Time and time again everybody think T&T is their personal ATM.

The decision to play belongs to the umpires.
To quote mi brethren
The sole arbiters of the ground being fit for play are the umpires, and this is clearly stated in the PCs. In essence the teams, led by their captains and supported by Robert (Haynes) and Vasbert, went on strike for a non-existent grievance.
CWI is at fault only for their silence in the aftermath
Dat is di simple truth. There must be penalties fi dis crap. Sure a reserve day would have been nice but they all knew the competition rules and conditions.
The sponsor must be rightly pissed.

Correct, however CWI must also take blame- as of now, they are yet to put an official statement. No press conference, no inquiry etc.
We deserve better from the administrators of WI cricket.

NOT EXACTLY ACCURATE
Your post was dated Nov 26
The article…..on the official website of West Indies cricket…..was posted on Nov 24.
The final was played on Nov 23.
As for an inquiry…..excerpt from the same article:
CWI will review tournament regulations in light of the unprecedented situation of a double forfeit. Additional information will be shared following further consultation with stakeholders.
Unsure what else CWI was supposed to do.

Why did you leave this part from my quote.
No press conference, no inquiry etc.
They website is not the public go to source for information, you know and they know it
When fans like you look for ways to remove their responsibility, they have no incentive to change their unprofessional ways.
The president should have called a press conference, have the 2 board also present to answer questions. You think this would have just been left alone in any of the 3 top boards, their media and their fans?

Exactly the point, but we are non the wiser b/c the WICBC had not called a press conference, issued a formal press release to the media and fans, call on reporters to explain the situation, and the two boards are equally mum and dumb.

Glad you ask. There is something call a press conference, where all media is invited, in person or remote. It starts off by the organization giving a prepared statement and then journalist get to ask questions. It is then widely published.
The CWI website, when its working is poorly designed and it looks like a high school project, it is not the source of information for the public- they have less then 500 visitors per month.
You didn't know that?

You are spot on.
The DOC was on a sports program in Jamaica and outlined what happened, this evening he did the same on the Mason & Guest program.
The BCA website link is below, with no detail of the reduced overs and the captains not showing up at the time for the toss.

You think the BCA who never criticized its players will report about potentially a gross act of insubordination

What an idiot, is this the standard you aspire too? Going on talk shows a days after and up one week after the fact and with a selective audience is not the same as an official press conference.
