A rare chance for a series sweep starts today at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. West Indies will be looking to repeat their strong showing in the first test at North Sound, where they were comfortable winners by over 200 runs. The tourists meanwhile, will look to put together a better performance, especially with the bat.
The home side may well resist the temptation to alter their line up, given how well they played over the course of the first test match last week. Keacy Carty, Kavem Hodge, keeper-batsman Joshua Da Silva and captain Kraigg Brathwaite, who turns 32 tomorrow, will look for better returns with the bat but the side will be very encouraged by the near hundreds of youngsters Alick Athanaze and Mikyle Louis, together with the excellent maiden century of Justin Greaves. The bowling attack, led by the impressive Jayden Seales, all chipped in with wickets and none were expensive. Bangladesh may well bring in the exciting but erratic young quick Nahid Rana to bolster their attack with some extra pace and will surely consider a change or two at the top of their order, which failed miserably in Antigua.
The pitch generally offers assistance to both pace and spin during red ball matches but has been kind to batsmen of late, albeit in the shortened white ball versions of the game. With rain forecast, we may well see some interruptions but hopefully, enough play will be possible to produce a positive result. With a testing tour to Pakistan following in the new year, West Indies will want to finish what has been a challenging year, on a high.

MATCH DELAYED BY A WET OUTFIELD
Will we get play today
At least not delayed by gunman
Will take rain anyday
Inspection due in a few minutes, hopefully with positive news to follow.
Inspection resulted in a further delay due to a damp area near to the pitch. The next inspection is due in two hours.

Toss will happen in around 20 mins with the first ball due to be bowled half an hour later.
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat

Going to bat first. Wicket looks good. Two changes: Shadman is playing, and Nahid comes in for Shoriful. Last match was tough. Top order needs to get going. Have to learn quickly in these conditions. Boys are very excited - have been practicing the last 3-4 days.

The head honcho is Jamaican.
That should go a long way to fill up the Sabina Park stands.
Why the 2 slower bowlers take the new ball? I wonder how the Josephs feel about that consistent decision.
Roach strikes! Bangladesh 8-1, Joy caught behind. Nice catch by Da Silva in front of first slip.
Roach strikes - gawn - good catch Josh

Been cussing about dis fi years
Roach strikes again! Magnificent catch behind by Da Silva and a superb start for the home side. Mominul goes for a duck, Bangladesh in early trouble at 10-2.
And again - same combo - another great catch
Mominul Haque 0
10/2
Superb start by the opening bowlers with Roach getting rewards. His delivery to remove Mominul was an exhibition in itself. Angled in to the left hander then left him as it pitched, forcing the batsman to play at the ball which he nicked behind for Da Silva to grab at full stretch.
Shamar Joseph now replaces Jayden Seales.
After 8 overs, Bangladesh are 13-2 (Roach 2-7)
Shahadat almost follows...Roach unlucky not to get his third after a flash wide of off stump goes over the slips for four.
Dropped! Alzarri Joseph gets Shadman playing at a ball angling across and edges into the slips where Athanaze puts down a chance.
These drop catches things got to stop eh
In reply to positiveg
Absolutely. Seems to be spells when they are really good followed by some rather indifferent periods where chances are going down.
Drinks. Bangladesh are 35/2. Shadman puts away a rare loose ball for four, spanked over point to the boundary.
In reply to 4REALQUICKS
It is ridiculous now man. Concentrate to me it comes from almost a lack of boredom and some real lackadaisical fielding
Resumption after drinks. Shamar Joseph constantly threatening the outside with great lines and pace regularly over 90mph. This is seriously good from the West Indies attack thus far.
In reply to positiveg
I agree. If it was at the end of a long, hot day it is perhaps understandable if not excusable but at the start of a session, it simply should not happen. The great pace attacks of the glory days relied upon superb slip catching. It is imperative that they work on this aspect of the game, such a fundamental part of winning games.
40/2
Wickets allyuh
Greaves into the attack. BAN 44-2 after 16 overs.
Second chance goes a begging. Do better cappo
Shadman is dropped again! This time, the captain puts it down at short cover. Should have been taken. Greaves the unfortunate bowler.
Drop #3 - loud stewwwps
And another one goes down. Shocking slip fielding this time with both Athanaze and Hodge both to blame. Several chances to take it but down it goes. Seales frustrated.
Would it be of value if Holder played as a specialist fielder.
In reply to Conorboy
Seales, Greaves and Alzarri would probably all agree with that idea right now. VERY poor catching after Da Silva pulled off two really nice catches to remove the batsmen earlier.
The bowlers have done very well. Not carried away by the green tinged surface, they have generally bowled in good areas. If Brathwaite, Athanaze and Hodge had been up to the standard shown by Da Silva, the scorecard would look very different. As it stands, Bangladesh are 54/2 after 21 overs with Shadman somehow still there unbeaten on 38.
SMH. This is frustrating to hear.
Seales finishes another excellent, testing over. He has yet to be rewarded though having bowled six overs for only two runs. Fine, fine bowling by the young man. Greaves to continue...
If the team doesn't run around the park for two laps and dock their day fees then
Why is Greaves being given this long spell???
Drinks break.
Bangladesh negotiated that last session of play without losing any more wickets, mainly thanks to the home side's numerous dropped chances. Seales in particular has bowled well since Roach took a pair of early wickets but after 25 overs, the tourists are 55-2.
It feels strange to me watching Test cricket from Sabina Park at this time of the year,November/ December.
The world is changed. But perhaps for the better.
But this used to be the heart of football season in Jamaica when we frolicked in the rain and enjoying that sport.
And because it is night here in the USA(east coast) it reminds me of long ago when we tuned in to Radio Australia for
a Test series.
I guess its strange the fielders without gloves too...except they can't even catch a cold.
But I am enjoying the action tho.
Now Hodge is on bowling lollipops. Seems Braithwaite is just as bad as JHo.
50* to Shadman who was dropped twice. Very good 50 mi granny
Quickly fading light, donkey drops from both ends now after the umpires were fiddling around with the dreaded light meter.
Stumps, Day One:
Bangladesh close on 69/2 after 30 overs of play were possible due to the wet outfield. West Indies took a pair of early wickets reducing the tourists to 10/2 but then managed to forget the basics dropping several catches. Shadman, brought back into the side, remains unbeaten on 50 overnight. Roach has 2/20.

Shamar Joseph to Shahadat Hossain, out Bowled!! The change in bowling does the trick! The persistent lines and lengths in and around off from the Windies bowlers finally brings the reward. This one is a pacy length delivery on middle and off, perhaps it straightens a bit after pitching, Shahadat Hossain is caught in the crease and plays down the wrong line and his defence is breached. Gets beaten on the outside edge and the ball shatters into the top of off. Brilliant piece of bowling from Shamar Joseph. It angled in initially and did just enough to bamboozle Shahadat Hossain

Jayden Seales to Litton Das, out Caught by Kavem Hodge!! Litton Das's tentative short stay at the crease comes to an end. Jayden Seales gets a well-deserved wicket after bowling so tight. He keeps it nice and full outside off, it does a bit in the air as it swings away, Litton Das pushes at it flat-footed and only manages to get a healthy outside edge. It's dying on Hodge

Shamar Joseph to Jaker Ali, out Caught by Joshua Da Silva!! Shamar Joseph's pace has got the better of Jaker Ali! He kept on generating good pace and on this occasion, he has outfoxed Jaker Ali. He bowls a sharp short ball at 138.1kph and it's well-directed as well. Jaker Ali tries to move inside the line and tries to help the pull away but his top hand hardly moves while he attempts the shot. Ends up getting a top-edge which goes onto deflect off his left shoulder and lobs behind. A simple catch for Joshua Da Silva and Shamar Joseph has a beaming smile on his face. Brilliant passage of play for the Windies.

Can't help noticing that the pitch as no appreciable bounce; that is
expected as it has not been 'baked' with all the rain was about during
preparation.
So why are the slip fielders standing so far away and the wicket keeper taking most
balls at ankle height...these fast medium bowlers are not hitting 140ks regularly if
it all.
Shamjo again !!!!!!!!!!!
44.1
Shamar Joseph to Shadman Islam, out Caught by Joshua Da Silva!! Edged and gone! Shamar Joseph is on fire at Sabina Park! Fuller than a good length, angled into the channel from around the wicket, and Shadman is reluctant to get forward because of the pace of Shamar. His front foot barely moves in defence and he's undone as the ball straightens a touch against the angle. Gets a clear edge and it's another catch for Joshua Da Silva. What a spell this is.

Nahid Rana to Brathwaite, out Caught by (sub)Zakir Hasan!! There's a fine delivery and it gets Brathwaite. But Brathwaite did not play that well at all, was short and on the fifth-stump line, Brathwaite did not drop the hands, was hopping and fending at it, it hits the shoulder of the bat and a simple catch to gully where the sub Zakir takes it. A short of length delivery just outside off, Kavem Hodge tries an ambitious pull, a fat top-edge and Taskin at fine-leg runs in and settles under it, never looked like catching it, gets the end of the fingers and down it goes, was he put off by Litton Das running towards the ball? It looked like Litton was interested in the catch but for that Taskin had to bail out, he did not, a chance goes abegging

Nahid Rana to Kavem Hodge, out Caught by Litton Das!! What a stunner that is. 143kph, short of length and nips back in to the fourth-stump line, extra bounce too, Kavem Hodge looks to defend and he only gets a thick outside-edge and it's flying to Litton Das' right, his first movement is to his left, then he changes direction and dives to his right to go with an outstretched right hand, the ball sticks and as he rolls over, he uses the other hand to control the ball and prevent it from going down. It had to be just the one hand with the way the ball was travelling and Litton did superbly to hang on. The third ump has a look to check if it's a clean catch and it is. Fantastic over that and that drop by Taskin does not cost Bangladesh much. Nahid Rana is pumped as he punches the air.

The batting coaches (Jimmy Adams and his team) need to get with Athanaze - he needs to get bat and pad tighter and his shot selection has not been the very best (even when he scored that 90-odd, he looked like he could give his wicket away at any moment).
I hope Greaves can come in and show these guys how to focus else it will be a challenge to get a 1st innings lead.

In reply to Acid
ball kept low and hit the bottom of his bat, there isnt a lot you can do with that
In reply to shivnotout
That is what pace does - it puts that indecision on the batsman that "I can't get forward else I will lose my head or break my collar bone." Then when the odd one keeps low, you get into a bad tangle.
And this Rana fella had serious pace. Imagine what he could become when he puts some more meat on that frame.

Taijul Islam to Justin Greaves, out Bowled!! Look at Mehidy screaming in Taijul Islam's face as the duo celebrate Justin Greaves' wicket. Taijul is pumped and so are Bangladesh. This is a tossed up delivery on off, Greaves gets forward and defends slightly outside the line, the ball sneaks past the inside-edge and hits off-stump.

The tourists have fought their way back into the match and indeed, the series. Did they catch the West Indies cold, complacent? It would be understandable given how the first test was so one-sided with the home team also in a strong position overnight after day two of this match. The Bangladeshis will go back to their hotel happier tonight though. Quick, incisive bowling by their new speedster Nahid Rana and a positive batting approach in their second innings has swung the match back in their favour. West Indies will need to bowl them out quickly tomorrow and then bat as they did in the first innings at North Sound.
Bangladesh bowling coach: Very good day. Wanted to show some fight. Counter-punch. And we've done that. Really happy with how the bowlers have gone. Batting has been different today. Nice sign. We knew it was coming at some stage (Rana five-for). When you bowl 150kph, you'll take wickets at some stage. He has improved his accuracy. When he started in February, he was all over the place. We've got to look after him. That's why he didn't play the first Test. It's about understanding the game and how he creates chances for himself. Luckily we've got the likes of Taskin and Hasan to help him out. And Miraz has been excellent in this game. Not really sure about the plan (with the bat). What I do know is Simmo asked for fight and character. We need to be good with the ball again. We think the surface is getting better.

This is an important session and day for West Indies cricket. If they lose this test match after being so in control after the close of day two, I think that they need to seriously consider their approach and with it, the leadership. Brathwaite and Da Silva are both short of runs, the second innings will be crucial for both of them, along with the others in the firing line of the Bangladesh attack. I hope I am wrong but the target may well be in excess of 300.

I agree that this will be a tough chase. Fingers crossed, they are able to find the minerals and get through the test.
What a masterstroke from Mehidy to throw the ball to Taijul Islam for the last over before lunch and he has delivered. Everyone expected Nahid Rana to bowl as he was warming up but Taijul it was. That wicket pegs West Indies back who started positively especially Brathwaite.

Taskin Ahmed to Keacy Carty, out Caught by Litton Das!! Taskin Ahmed strikes and he is cock-a-hoop! The channel outside off has worked to perfection for him this time. On a driveable length outside off and comes out on a scrambled seam, moving in a touch, Keacy Carty can't resist himself from going for a booming drive through covers and an outside edge is induce. A regulation catch for Litton Das. A partnership that was starting to blossom has been nipped in the bud.

Taijul Islam to Brathwaite, out Caught by Mahmudul Hasan Joy!! Oh what a ripper from Taijul! Tossed up from around the wicket, drifting in on off and middle, Brathwaite gets forward to defend but the ball dips and jumps on him while also turning away. It catches the bat shoulder and balloons to the right of slip where Joy runs across to his right and takes a good diving catch. This is such a good delivery. It draws Brathwaite forward with the flight, but the dip doesn't allow him to smother the ball.

Taijul Islam to Athanaze, out Bowled!! Poor from Athanaze! Tossed up outside off, he goes for a booming drive against the turn, eyeing the cover region but is bowled through the gate as the ball turns in sharply. The length just wasn't there to play that shot. It was nowhere near full enough.

Taijul Islam to Joshua Da Silva, out Lbw!! Joshua Da Silva has been trapped in front but he decides to challenge the decision straightaway. Has he got an inside edge? Was the arm delivery from Taijul that kept coming in with the round the wicket angle, Joshua Da Silva was caught in the crease as he tried to punch it down the ground but was late on it. Gets beaten on the inside edge and gets rapped on the pads. UltraEdge shows a clear daylight between bat and ball. Over to ball-tracking and it reveals three reds. It would have crashed into the leg-stump. A 5-fer for Taijul Islam, his third against the Windies in Tests! That's perhaps the final nail in the coffin for the Windies

Pathetic batting.
Why is it that West Indies batsmen over the last 10-15 years cant correct their technical game? We make the same mistakes over and over.

Looking like a victory for the tourists, West Indies still 114 runs shy of the target with only three wickets in hand. Roach is 8*, Alzarri Joseph is on 4* and only Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales to come.

Hasan Mahmud to Alzarri Joseph, out Bowled!! Alzarri goes for a big hack across the line and gets knocked over! The ball clips the top of off stump as Hasan Mahmud strikes with his very first delivery of a new spell. Hasan Mahmud to Roach, out Lbw!! Umpire Dharmasena takes a long time and eventually raises the finger. Roach reviews. Sharp nip-backer from outside off, Roach is trapped in the crease as he looks to defend and gets hit high on the pad. His feet are in the air as he's hopping in the crease, expecting the ball to bounce higher from a short of length. But it stays a bit low, jags back past the inside edge and hits the pad. Is it going over the stumps?

Part of it is also lack of familiarity with the Sabina Park pitch.. There is always bounce and
as the pitch becomes harder and baked spinners will get very good bounce and pace if not
big turn. The Mecca has similar characteristics back in the day.
It is therefore almost a 'sin' to be playing back to bowlers who really spin the ball on a day four pitch. Caution
is the word...
Except for a few batters like Gomes,Lara and Kanhai,Kalli and Fredo ,Lloyd only he Barbadian greats really handled Sabina Park pitches very well, from the
famed Ws, through Sobers,Nurse et al to Greenidge and Haynes and they were prolific.
I doubt Hodge who looked like coping using his feet, Athanaze and Louis were perhaps playing at a Test match pitch at Sabina for the first time.
It can be a challenge.
Hety and Ganganand Singh debuted I think at Bina and they looked virtual novices.
It's a while too that regular FC domestic Tournament games been played there as of olden times and all players
need that experience of playing on different venues throughout the region.
Maybe the Board should reconsider staging FC cricket in only one or two venues in a season.
Some of our batters did not cope well with the extra pace or bounce either. I think getting
hit a few times took some starch out of them.
Anyhow, Bangladesh used the conditions better and deserve their win
In reply to 4REALQUICKS
Aim at the moon and you may at least shoot over the tree tops.
Taijul Islam is the Player of the Match for his six wickets and some useful runs across two innings:
"This win was in unfamiliar conditions. Everyone gave a good effort and the boys were dedicated to getting the win.
(The bowling attack now) The pace and spin attack we have, we've been playing well, everyone's in good rhythm, so definitely we can compete against any batting attack."
This is Bangladesh without Shakib, Mushfiqur and Tamim. Also without Najmul Hossain Shanto. Mehidy in just his second Test as captain has pulled off a convincing victory over the hosts. The team is now in a huddle with Taijul Islam leading the conversation.
Bangladesh now have more away wins in West Indies (three) than any other country.
They have two wins in Pakistan and Zimbabwe and one each in New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
