Crawley gawn fi 17- Henry strikes
21/2
3.2
Matt Henry to Duckett, out Caught by Latham!! Edged and taken really well at second slip. Simple, does it move in, does it move away type of wobble seam length delivery. Line is around off stump so Duckett has nowhere to hide. He tries to play a straight-batted defence but it takes a healthy outside edge. Latham stayed low and moved to his right to time that catch to perfection. If you have to be harsh on Duckett you could probably say he could have played a bit more closer to the body but that's just a classic new ball Test match wicket.

Matt Henry to Crawley, out Bowled!! Timbaahh, through the gate, hitting top of middle! Matt Henry, you beauty! This was on the cards. Crawley gave it away that he wasn't comfortable. Saw Crawley as a bigger threat so he tried to put him off his length in the first over. Henry won that over in his first opportunity to bowl at Crawley. Now he starts the over with a testing length delivery that just pitched outside off stump. Crawley thought he had to show some respect. Well, the bowler demanded that.

12.3
Nathan Smith to Jacob Bethell, FOUR, wow! Just played a punchy off-drive and didn't even bother to move! Full and on the off stump, Bethell gave the full face of the bat to the ball and it raced to the boundary
12.5
Caught by Blundell!! Oh he's caught down leg now. He was so sound in his defence and playing straight. Suddenly they offered him a couple of boundaries to get him going and now Nathan Smith dished out what was a harmless short of length delivery down leg. Bethell in the mood now to attack with those two fours. Tries to pull this aggressively, only gets a feather (glove) on it and Blundell takes a good low catch to the right. This is so against the run of play from Bethell and this is a shot purely on adrenaline. Big dent for England

Matt Henry to Brook, 1 run, 50 up for England! Back of a length delivery around middle and leg, it shapes back in sharply and Brook nudges it towards the on-side. Calls for a single, but Ravindra has a direct-hit at the keeper's end. Pope makes it in with a dive

Bethell got excited in the moment!
Other than that mental lapse, he played exceptionally well.
In reply to FanAttick
Yes..nice knock but he needed some advice from his batting partner as he was losing
it with ill advised shot during the over. Duckett did not help the youngster there.
37.6
Southee to Jacob Bethell, out Caught by Blundell!! Heartbreak for Jacob Bethell. He falls for 96. Gets forward to drive a full delivery outside off and edges it. Simple catch for Blundell. Relief for Southee and New Zealand and Duckett pats Bethell on the back as he walks past. A standing ovation from Stokes and the rest of the England contingent for the youngster. A fine knock but he was a little flustered in the 90s. Was a bit too keen to get there and plays a loose shot to get out. Walks back disappointed.

Southee to Duckett, out Bowled!! Duckett too falls in the 90s. Both Bethell and Duckett don't get to their 100s. Wide length delivery outside off, Duckett tries to run it down with an open face, the thick inside-edge is found and it goes back on to off-stump. More joy for New Zealand. Duckett can't believe he has dragged it back on and that's a 100 which was there for the taking missed.
Duckett b Southee 92(112) [4s-6 6s-1]

I’m curious
Why would England declare their 2nd innings on Day 2 of a 5 day test match?

Rootball takes precedence. It's clear that Root has his sights on Tendulkar's Test record. It's just 3000 odd runs away, and at his current rate of scoring he'd be there in about 3 years. Hard to see him being displaced unless there was a really dramatic fall away in form.
In reply to KTom
He’s 34, and at the peak of his powers . If he plays on for another 4 years, the record will be his, a slight drop in form notwithstanding.
He only needs to score around 800 runs a year for the next 4 years. Not easy but he’s done it so many times before, and England okay a lot of test matches.
Hopefully he’s allowed to continue as long as he wants, unlike Anderson who was forced out when he was closing in on the record for most test matches played

2.1
Woakes to Conway, out Bowled!! Straight through the gate! Conway's woes continue, he's gone for a duck! Absolute jaffa from Woakes, length delivery angling into off-stump, wobbled seam and Conway had no clue which way that was going, he was stuck on the crease as he tried to defend and it came back in, went right through bat-pad before going on to hit off-stump. England strike very early.

Woakes to Williamson, out Caught by Pope!! Edged and gone! That's a massive blow! Woakes had Williamson in all sorts of trouble in that over and he caps it off with a dismissal, brilliant bowling. Length delivery just outside off, right in the channel again, just a bit of extra bounce too and slight movement away off the pitch, Williamson didn't do much wrong, looked to defend and held his line but the ball zipped through and took a faint edge before going through to the keeper.
Williamson c Pope b Woakes 4(16)

Brydon Carse to Latham, out Caught&Bowled!! Got him! That's a great return catch and Brydon Carse gets a wicket straightaway! Fuller and on the stumps, was slanting across just a bit and Latham closed the face of the bat early looking to whip it into the leg-side, it took the leading edge and popped back towards the right of the bowler. Carse leapt across to his right, stuck his hand out and grabbed. Had to change directions quickly. Great sharp catch that and New Zealand already in heaps of trouble.
