A batsman tries to sweep.
Top edge and ball is just about over head height in front of the batter.
Ball is on its way down.
Keeper leaves behind the stump and heads for the catch.
He hasn’t yet come in front of the batter when the batter kicks the ball away on its way down.
Some might argue the keeper would ‘maybe’ reach the ball if he dives.
Fielders appeal.
Out obstructing the field or not out?
What dictates the on field decision?
What is DRS checking?
Thanks. I can’t work it out in my head.

Question for you umps
In reply to Halliwell
Here's the issue.
The batsman is allowed to kick a after it hits his bat or body ball to prevent it from rebounding on to the stumps.
There is a caveat though: -
He must be clearly trying to stop the ball from hitting the stumps.
He cannot obstruct a fielder from making a catch attempt.
If there is clear evidence that the batsman was obstructing the fielder from a catch, he is out.
If there is clear evidence that he did not see the fielder (fielder coming from behind his view) then not out.
I did not see the play to which you refer, as I did not watch the game so far.
If you are speaking hypotheticals, then my views above stands.

Just hypothetical when I saw a sweep and the position of the Bangali batter and Hopey.
So that’s it then, clear evidence so the umps will have to decide then all hell will break loose.
