When Bangladesh play West Indies in the third ODI in St Kitts on December 12, it will be Phil Simmons' 400th international in a 20-year coaching career. He looks back at the various teams he has coached and what he's learned during his time with them.

You are about to become the fourth coach, after Duncan Fletcher, Mickey Arthur and Dav Whatmore, to be in charge for 400 internationals. What does the milestone mean to you?

As far as cricket is concerned, I am not a numbers man. I can say that reaching 400 matches was a surprise. It wasn't something that was in my mind when I started coaching. It is great to have reached the milestone. It means I have done something right.

You are currently the Bangladesh coach on an interim basis. It is a team in transition, with its own set of complexities. How do you stay hungry after 20 years?

My hunger is determined by the ability of seeing improvement. It is a team in transition. They need some sort of stability and guidance, but also there's a chance of improvement and success. It is my motivation. A chance to get success and improve people.

You led West Indies to the 2016 T20 World Cup title. It was probably the highest point in your coaching career. Where do you rank the campaign?

It was an unbelievable campaign in the way we played the cricket. We had a bit of luck at times. Lendl Simmons being out and not out on a few occasions at the Wankhede [Lendl Simmons was twice caught off no-balls in the 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final against India] was one of them. The campaign was exciting throughout. We played really good cricket. We deserved to be winners at the end of the day. It was definitely the highest point I have reached in my coaching career.

shiv was done. shiv career wasn't like lara when he left where his antepenultimate test innings was a double hundred and the innings before that was a century. shiv's only hundred for 2013 was against bangladesh and he had declined greatly by the time the second string outfit they forced on denesh ramdin went to SA and was even worse against the english the next year. shiv was done

simmons could not even pick his own team, exemplified by his wanting bravo and pollard on his odi team and receiving a suspension for insisting that he had the best team available. tiger was done. if he wanted the record he shouldda score a hundred

So in addition to his 400 stints , he will also be remembered as the coach that dropped Shiv 37 runs short of the record.
In cahoots with Lloyd.
Believe Simmons had problems with many other players as well.
Not anything worth celebrating in my book.

maybe the scouts because he recognized they were not up to international standard....bwecause even marlon samuels said simmons was a great coach and should not haver been fired

so we should believe people like holder and co who became regulars after the stars were exiled, the same positions the scouts occupied while cwi didn't pick gayle bravo and co? When we won the wt20, sammy and gayle were full of praise Big Phil. Ironically the VC of that series, Jason Holder could not make the team for one match in the tournament, which further backs up my point that he and his scouts could not make any WI side once the stars were there.

LONDON–Discarded Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy has supported the view of two of his former teammates that the sacking of head coach Phil Simmons has negatively impacted West Indies' performance in the ongoing series against Pakistan.

Speaking here this week, the 32-year-old criticised the West Indies Cricket Board's decision, noting such actions had now become a trend, and said he could tell the Caribbean side was not in a "happy mood" in the United Arab Emirates.

"It's disappointing but not surprising," the two-time T20 World Cup-winning skipper was quoted as saying

i guess Darren Sammy didn't like phil as well? boy, yuh see them boy-scouting brown--nosers that were forced on WI cricket. THEIR OPINION IS IRRELEVANT. Half of them couldn't make a lashings XI if they didn't have friends in officialdom
