Two shot dead in Tacarigua, Enterprise – murder toll now 584
Two men were shot dead in separate incidents in Tacarigua and Enterprise, Chaguanas on December 13.
And police have confirmed the identities of two other men whose bodies were found at the side of the road in Piarco and off Lady Young Road earlier that day.
The latest murders bring the country's toll up to 584, further surpassing the country's second deadliest year of 2023 which saw 577 people killed.
The bloodiest year on record was 2022 which saw 605 being murdered.
But police have noted that the homicide toll in T&T for the year has already crossed 600.

Killed with her own kitchen knife: Grandma's throat slit in home invasion
BANDITS slit the throat of an elderly woman and left her to die in her home on Saturday night.
Her elderly husband, whose hands were bound, was helpless to fight off the two armed criminals who invaded their home in Couva.
Dead is Amina Mohammed, 68, of Nancy Street, in Lisas Gardens.
Her 74-year-old husband sustained minor injuries.
Police said the criminals announced a robbery when they stormed the couple's home.
Criminal attack at Flagstaff Hill Residences
Four criminals infiltrated Flagstaff Hill Residences, Long Circular Road, St. James on Saturday night, attacked and robbing two residents after neutralizing two security guards They escaped with more than $15,000 in property ithe vehicle they stole.
It happened at around 8.45p.m.
Two security guards on duty said they saw a black Toyota Aqua, registration PEE-2695, pull up along Long Circular Road.
Four men got out and approached the guards who were beaten and their hands and feet were bound with duct tape.
Businessman’s father, 70, abducted at home
An elderly man was kidnapped from his home in Valsayn yesterday morning.
Zahir Khan, 70, the father of a businessman, was standing in the yard of his home in Bamboo Settlement No. 1 when about 10.55 a.m., a black Nissan Tiida sedan pulled up next to him.
Three masked men exited the car.
One of the suspects was holding a firearm.
The men grabbed Khan, dragged him along the road and threw him into the Tiida.
A neighbour attempted to help, but the armed kidnapper pointed the weapon at the man.
The suspects then drove off.
Recent kidnappings
• November 10—three Venezuelan women were kidnapped in Hoyte Avenue, Arima.
• October 13—businessman Suvesh Ramnarine, aka “Cooksie”, of Warrenville, Cunupia, was kidnapped on October 13 while liming at Rob’s Bar, along the Southern Main Road, Cunupia. He was released almost a month later. Police said a ransom demand was made.
• October 1—moneylender Derrick Cooper, 62, was abducted along the Southern Main Road, Caroni, by men dressed in tactical wear. His body was found about a week later in Morvant.
• September 25—Sachel Kungebeharry, 32, was kidnapped along Jermingham Railway Road, Endeavour. His relatives received a ransom request for $500,000, which was paid. However, he was not released. His body was eventually found in a shallow grave in Longdenville on October 4.
Cpl Ashraf Mohammed, 45, of Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, and PC Jason Dan Michael, 34, of Charlieville, both appeared before High Court Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami charged with Kungebeharry’s murder and the offence of misbehaving in public office by kidnapping him for ransom.
• September 11—a Venezuelan woman was kidnapped in Freeport. She was later found, and a 31-year-old man from Debe was held in connection with the incident.
