Ms. Freeland said she resigned after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau informed her on Friday that he no longer wanted her to be his top economic minister.

“Upon reflection, I have concluded that the only honest and viable path is for me to resign the Cabinet,” she said in a letter to Mr. Trudeau that she posted on X. “To be effective, a minister must speak on behalf of the Prime Minster and with his full confidence. In making you decision, you made clear that I no longer have credibly enjoy the confidence and possess the authority that comes with it.

Ms. Freeland said the Prime Minister offered her another cabinet post but did not what it was

Is this for real! shock I can't read the article right now.

I think she was about to deliver a bad economic update. Whatever the issues are, she is part of the problem.

Frasier who was the Immigration and then the housing minister had to go. Both of those portfolios are crucial to Canada's future, and they failed miserably.

Freeland knew what was coming down the pike. She was simply ineffective in even explaining what she was doing and lost the confidence of the prime minister.

This was a long time coming.

This was in the cards since Trudeau started to buddy up with Mark Carney. Carney is earmarked to take over finance as well as Deputy PM.

This one will surely backfire .......

Freeland's jaw-dropping move to leave just before tabling the economic statement is unprecedented. The statement is supposed to be the government's fiscal road map at a time of great uncertainty, as Canada stares down Trump's tariff threat.
"On Friday, you told me you no longer want me to serve as your finance minister and offered me another position in the cabinet," Freeland wrote, addressing Trudeau. "Upon reflection, I have concluded that the only honest and viable path is for me to resign from the cabinet."

Freeland also took a jab at Trudeau's handling of the country's economy, denouncing what she called the government's "costly political gimmicks" and imploring him to work collaboratively with the country's premiers to take on Trump's tariffs. The statement revealed Canada's finances are in worse shape than expected. The deficit for 2023-24 came in at $61.9 billion — billions more than the roughly $40 billion Freeland had promised it would be.

Born in Peace River, Alberta, Freeland completed a bachelor's degree at Harvard University, studying Russian history and literature before earning a master's degree in Slavonic studies from the University of Oxford. She worked as a journalist in Ukraine and eventually held editorial positions at the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail and Reuters, becoming managing director of the latter
The fact that she came from a Ukrainian family was her greatest selling point. Other than that, she was a failure.

Mark Joseph Carney OC is a Canadian economist and banker who served as the 8th governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.

Carney will win the leadership of the liberals.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said the government is "spiralling out of control right before our eyes." He said Freeland's departure comes "at the very worst time," as Canada grapples with a series of economic challenges.

Poilievre is worse than Harper.

After his first term in office;
On Aug. 14, Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion released his report into the SNC-Lavalin affair, the political scandal that has led to the ouster of two cabinet ministers, the resignation of one of the prime minister's key aides and opposition calls for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down.

The scandal all centres on one key question: did the prime minister, someone in his office or other government officials try to pressure Jody Wilson-Raybould when she was attorney general to step in and resolve the corruption and fraud case against SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. in an effort to spare the Montreal-based engineering giant from criminal prosecution?
