The fact is, of the broke established cricket boards(nz, wi, sa, sl, pak), only the WI and Pakistan have performed poorly and even pakistan had a series win over opposition higher than them. SA reached the wtc final, Sri Lanka was in the running for the final until the conclusion of the last BG test and nz whitewashed big bad india at home.the poorer boards all performed very creditably . If a two tier system really becomes a reality, can we honestly look in the mirror blame other people for us being demoted?

When you choose NOT TO SELECT your best cricketers in favour of lesser players so they can “eat a food” AS A MATTER OF POLICY, for what is supposed to be the ultimate form of the game, you’ve EARNED exactly what you get.

The root of my post above was about CONTROL.

The then WICB may have dropped the “C” from their acronym but it was central to everything they did. C for CONTROL.

When it became clear that players, especially their best players had OPTIONS….they couldn’t abide that. Instead of working with them, they decided to show who was BOSS.

They ostracized and outlawed those players. You saw terms like Prima Donna’s (PD’s), Mercenaries, bandied about. The CEO talked about “Star Team and not Star Players” etc.

They manoeuvered their favourites and yes men into place so they could show who is BOSS.

And they “won” in the very short term. Their best players were ostracized…..particularly in test cricket. They “won” the PR with the “fans” and some in the media. To the ultimate detriment of WI cricket. And now we are where we are.

The very definition of a Phyrric Victory.

In local terms……we look fuh dat!
