West Indies last played a Test in this country in 2006, and it's not exactly been a warm welcome so far, at least weather wise - with temperatures going as low as 8 degrees this morning. Everything feels very cold about this series which is taking place towards the end of the WTC cycle, with both teams at the bottom of the table.
But the preparations from the teams haven't been lacking. Pakistan, in fact, have done everything in their power to replicate the spin formula they used to great effect against England.
The pitch here has been subjected to heaters to make sure there's help for the likes of Sajid Khan and Noman Ali

Umpires call goes West Indies way and Pakistan lose their third wicket with just 31 runs on the board. Seales, bowling a good consistent line and length is rewarded again and now has 2/13 from his five overs. Motie, the other wicket taker, has 1/13 from his five overs. Ghulam was the latest Pakistani to lose his wicket, out for just 5.

Seales to continue with his extended spell, into his eight over now. Currently has figures of 3/17 and it could oh so easily have been another wicket as he has Saud Shakeel playing and missing outside off stump.
That third wicket for Jayden Seales was his 75th test scalp. He now has 75 wickets at 21 apiece, taken in just his 18th test match.

Greaves into the attack, Seales gets a very well deserved rest after a superb spell of 9-1-19-3
Loose delivery, wide and short from Greaves with his second ball. Punished by Shakeel who smashes it for four to earn slight relief for the home side, who now move onto 60/4 at the end of the 20th over.

Spin now on at both ends, for the first time in the match. Pakistan have started to rebuild after the assault from Jayden Seales, moving on to 79/4 from 26 overs. Sinclair replaces Greaves, who finished his short, opening spell with 0/12 from three overs. For Pakistan, Saud Shakeel is 30* and Rizwan 14*

Due to the loss of so much time earlier, the final session is scheduled to be an abbreviated one hour of play, provided the weather and conditions do not intervene further. The visitors, who enjoyed a rampant start in the opening session of play, will hope to make further inroads when play resumes. For the home side, they will be heartened by the unbroken stand of 40 between Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan.

Close of Play, Day One:
Pakistan, having won the toss and elected to bat, were soon reduced to 46/4, primarily thanks to an excellent opening spell from Jayden Seales, who finished with 3/21 from ten overs, nine of which he bowled to start the day. The home side will be somewhat relieved to have battled through that early storm, closing the first day of the series without losing any further wickets.

Just 20 overs into their reply, the tourists are 8 down for just 90. Motie and Warrican, playing their shots, have actually put together 24 off 26 balls, which is the highest partnership of the sorry West Indian effort.
Pakistan, earlier dismissed for 230, will be delighted to have the opportunity to bowl against such a meagre batting line up.
The pitch, clearly a raging turner as expected, aside from the one partnership between Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan, which engineered 141, has claimed the other 17 wickets for less than 180 runs.

Seales brings up the hundred for the West Indies and gets himself off the mark with a massive strike for six. Same over, Warrican blasts another ball over the boundary for a maximum. Seales then hits the first ball of the next over for six more. Maybe the batting order should do a 180!
WI - 119/9 (Warrican 22*, Seales 13*)

Warrican to Muhammad Hurraira, leg byes, 1 run, that seems to be pad first and Warrican goes up in appeal! Umpire says not out. Will West Indies go for the review? Yes they do. Good length ball that slides in with the arm as Hurraira looks to punch through the off-side. He gets cramped for room, and it definitely clips the back leg before hitting the bat. But ball-tracking says that the impact is umpire's call on off stump.

Saved on the impact, by a hair's breadth! Warrican defeats the batsman but Pakistan remain without loss due to umpire's call on impact! Hurraira survives...just. Pakistan now 55/0 in their second innings, a lead of 148.
Jomel Warrican, noticeably slower than Motie, is already proving to be more of a threat. The Pakistan spinners generally bowled much slower than Motie and Sinclair, with only Warrican among thr West Indies slow bowlers understanding the slower speed / turn ratio works better on this type of surface.

West Indies need a comeback of epic proportions to give themselves a chance from here.
Their spinners did pick up 6/43 once they found their rhythm in the first session today, with Pakistan going from 187/4 to 230 all out.
Jomel Warrican has been impressive again in the second innings, but he hasn't found much support with Motie, especially, being disappointing.
That's all for now. Given how things are going, despite all the overs lost, this Test may not last very long

Warrican strikes !!!!
31.1
Warrican to Saud Shakeel, out Caught by Justin Greaves!! Such a soft dismissal as Shakeel departs off the very first ball of the day! Slow and tossed up on off, he gets forward to flick it through the on-side, fails to keep it down and gives catching practice to short midwicket.

Warrican to Salman Agha, no run, appeal for LBW as Agha misses the sweep shot! West Indies go for the review as the umpire says not out. Tossed up and drifting in on middle, Agha looks to sweep but is hit on the arm. There's sharp turn and bounce,
and ball-tracking says it's missing off stump comfortably

Shan Masood | Pakistan captain:
As long as we get 20 wickets and we're able to put good performance, we'll be happy (with the pitches). It also helped with us adding Abrar as well. He bowled well along with Sajid and Noman. We didn't know if it was going to turn from ball one in this weather. We were quite surprised. A day before the game we spoke that once a batter gets in, they have to go big. Rizzi and Saud did that. If we want to be one of the best sides in the world, there are a lot of things we can improve. When you win it's easy to get on the high happy ride and be satisfied with it. But you're never satisfied.

Kraigg Brathwaite | West Indies captain:
We allowed them 50-60 runs too many in the first innings. We can take a lot from how Warrican bowled. Was the slowest out there. He brought the batsmen forward which was important. We allowed back foot shots in the first innings. We also saw how Alick played. Just have to believe in ourselves. Important to be positive on these type of pitches - looking to score always. It was spinning from Day 1. Jayden will be a legend for sure. 300 Test wickets no doubt. One of the best I have seen a West Indies pacer bowl in the subcontinent. He's a star

Sajid Khan | Player of the Match:
Credit to Aaqib [Javed] bhai and the management. Man of the Match should be Rizwan and Saud for the knocks in the first innings, and also Masood in the second. There was a good amount of turn in the pitch. Spoke to our bowling coach after first innings - I conceded runs later in the spell. Slowed the pace down further in the second innings and controlled runs better.
