It 's not how many games you play it is the quality of games. e.g the Aussieland play 10 games a year, but the competition is very high.At our zenith we played 5 games and each one was test match quality.. No WI A or CCC teams.We had very competitive ' colts' teams as the nursery to our national teams.

What is 'colts' team? Something like the Academy?

Yes, a 2nd X1 team made up.of youngsters 18- 27 who were on the cusp of making the regional team.
One level below the 'colts' team was the youth or u19 team.
