Jason Holder has made himself available to represent Barbados Pride in the upcoming matches in the West Indies Championship, the regional four-day first-class cricket competition. The world-rated allrounder said he is looking forward to the next round of matches on March 5-8 when the Bajans face Combined Campuses and Colleges at Kensington Oval. He missed the opening three rounds due to commitments on the global T20 circuit in the United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh.
“I have been in contact with the Chairman of Selectors and informed him of my availability. I’m happy to be back and want to represent Barbados once again. Last year I played two games for Barbados. Representing my country means a lot to me. I want to continue to make a contribution to Barbados cricket on and off the field,” Holder said.
The former West Indies captain in all formats, also has his eyes fixed on a recall to the West Indies Test team for the upcoming three-match home series against Australia and the five T20 Internationals which follow in June and July. The opening match will be at Kensington Oval on June 26-29.

If upcoming matches were against Bangladesh however, he wasn’t coming back a place.

Great news.
Welcome back Holder.
Now I await news on Chase, Mayers and Chase.
Great to field the best team, and have them prepare for their test return,
or at least give the selection committee some choices.
May the best 15 be available for test selection.

Right now, he cannot make the test or odi team. Let him work his way up and show commitment, he has prioritized franchise cricket

Love it how men can just walk into a team when it suits their convenience.

So you saying that if Pooran makes himself available for TnT he wouldn't get a pick? ..... despite the fact, unlike Holder, he has shown no interest over the years in playing regional cricket

If only you had taken a minute to read his statement, so see it below.
Last year I played two games for Barbados. Representing my country means a lot to me. I want to continue to make a contribution to Barbados cricket on and off the field,” Holder said.
Chase also played a match and scored a ton last year, as a soccer and Tennis fan, you do know players return home and represent the country.

I hope he stays in his money making formats and leave Barbados to develop it's young talent.
See no reason why Matthew Forde should be replaced with Holder.

I would hope that he will not get an automatic pick in a team where they have left out a man who has a century already for the season. Who would Pooran replace? Jangoo, Mohammed, DaSilva, Cariah? All of these guys are averaging close to or over 50 for the season to date. I do not think that Pooran could walk into a Trini team this year.

Not in favour of Jason coming back in tbh. Very much agree he has been a great servant over many years and took on the responsibility of captain when others would have shirked at his young age.
However, I often get the vibe that he is not overly loved by the other teammates and maybe seen as aloof.
Our best away performances in recent years were away to Bangla,Oz and Pakistan each time he turned down the tours.
Sometimes the understanding that cricket is a " team" game gets lost.
Team dynamic is very often forgotten about in selection analysis.
Besides that, do not see how he would strengthen the team.
Yes, maybe for Greaves which is debatable, but there may be other recently forgotten players ahead for that position already.

Ah how ignorant your statements sound.
You are suggesting that Holder's absence was a cause for the good performances in these 3 tours.
First, the Bangy tour.
Holder and many others erred on the side of caution after a health report recommended that the CWI cancel the tour.
Holder and others refused to go, after consultation with CWI, who promised no sanctions (which was a lie).
Windies wins came on the injury to the best player (Shakib al Hasan).
together with an aberration; that is Kyle Mayers, which killed Bangy's spirit.
Next Ozz tour.
Holder was recovering from injuries and choose to prepare for the T20 World cup, rather that risk further injuries.
that said; he chose the more lucrative shorter game which allowed healing time, instead of the rigors of 5 days tests.
Windies win came of the back of a heroic performance of Shamar Joseph, who would have make the team even if Holder was there.
Last, the Paks tour.
Holder was injured and unable to go on the tour. (shoulder injury)
I actually saw him in Bermuda while he was recoperating.
Again that series draw came off the back of a single player, Warrican.
Had Holder been there, Warrican still would have made the team.
I always discount any win against Paks, who are probably match-fixers.
I advise you to look up correlation and causation.
Holder's absence did not contribute to the wins.
As far as being aloof, you are sounding like an idiot.
An Bajans would say, 'an ignant chupid fool' (the clean version).
Holder is one of the mentor in the team,
Actually his voice is the loudest on the field cheering on the players,
especially when their shoulders are dropping.
I don't know what games you watch, or who you think that you can fool here.
You are entitled to your opinions about Holder's return,
same as any other poster here.
please try using facts and at least sensible posits.
Now feel free to cuss me.
I have big, broad shoulders.

Please tell me that you are joking.
Pooran is an automtic pick in any TnT team if he makes himself available.
I don't care if ll the batsmen makes centuries, Pooran is automatic.
And you can take dat to de bank.

Well said !! I agree with you in excess of 100 percent in the points you raised with regards to your above Bangy, Ozz and Paks tours. As you rightly said, Holder is one of the BEST mentors, (if not the only genuine one, I might add) in the team. Yes, you stated that his voice is the loudest on the field cheering on the players especially when their shoulders are dropping.
Plus, earlier on (a few years ago), Holder was the ONLY DEVOTED one playing all the West Indies games (giving up the opportunities to earn top dollars to play franchise cricket globally when he was in his prime) whilst the other ONES (every one knows who they are) abandoned the WI team and were busy EARNING TOP DOLLARS playing franchise cricket around the world. For his reward, the WASTE Indies board then screwed him and dropped him from the team with the excuse that he is injured and not available for WI games.

Where were you when Gayle, DJ Bravo, Narine, Pooran, Simmons and Pollard (to name a few) did the same thing you condemned the present players for, making a living in the IPL and different cricket entities worldwide?
I say, guys, "make hay while the sun shines." Forget about West Indies test cricket. Its glory days are over, since 1995. Move on.

Firstly, I never cast any aspirations regarding his reasons from not going on tour. I fully accept the reasons.
My point is that I felt they there appeared to be a better team ethic when he was not included.
Yes, he was very vocal for the period after he was replaced as captain but that did not last very long.
I could be all wrong, I am only going on what I have witnessed but I just never get the impression there was a great love for him among his teammates.

Maybe he was contributing off the field in the first three rounds of this competition while away on his franchise gigs. Can you confirm?

Jason is a Bajan International player, whenever an International is available, he/she gets picked. Apart from Kevin Wickham, Forde and maybe a spinner, none of the u21 are ready to play for Barbados.
After 25 years of not producing a male international super batsman, the present Barbadian fans have not learned, that consistent performance matters.

I ignored Palso with that comment. Them trinis been calling for Pooran to be shoe horned to the test team without even playing any red ball cricket. So now he is suggesting he cant get into TnT team but his peeps feel he should go directly to test team?
