PM: Treat gang, gun violence as acts of terror

Speaking at the closing media conference of the Caricom Heads of Government Meeting in Barbados on Friday, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said the Caricom summit spent a lot of time discussing, strategising and taking decisions on the unacceptably high level of violent crime, focusing on legislation, law enforcement and the public health aspects with respect to the legislation.

“We agreed that notwithstanding social considerations, that the changing nature of crime is such that actions or acts of violence in the public space in certain instances must now be regarded as acts of terrorism. We are talking here about indiscriminate shooting in a public place where the perpetrators endanger all and sundry. In order to address that, we believe that the legislation needs to be cognisant of what exactly we are experiencing now as against what the existing legislation anticipated,” he said.

Rowley said Caricom expects that these acts of violence, using the tools of trade of the criminals at large in Caribbean communities, from The Bahamas to Suriname, St Lucia to Trinidad and Tobago, will be deemed to be acts of terrorism and viewed in this way by the executive and the judiciary.

.....

Isn't it strange he had a tenure of a decade, and now that he is retiring, he has a brain wave?

Idiot Rowley over 4500 murdered under your watch...and you did fck all.

Now you are retiring with almost $90,000 per month pension and all medicals paid, as
Seniors need to make do with $3500 a month.
Yes, you gave them all 4% raises and told them to tighten their belts.

You got almost 30% raise...oh, that makes sense.evil

Sadly, for you, your relentless campaigning for the UNC and against the PNM will bear no fruit.
I am not sure what your expected benefits from putting them back in office could be, whether in contracts, cash or otherwise, but you certainly put in the hours!
The Cambridge Analytica project that was started with the UNC some time ago is clearly still in play. The opposition party has operatives like yourself throughout various media.

Posting on average at least 4 articles a week that quote posts from the paid UNC trolls in the dailies is actually quite tiresome. On a caribbeab cricket board at that! The picture you are trying to paint is as transparent as your cleverly disguised typical UNC anti-afro bias.
You don’t live in the country but feel the need to try and denigrate everything about it (of course only when the PNM is in power).

No doubt, you will claim you are just a patriot that wants to paint the reality of life in TnT but that would be a bald-faced lie.

In the interest of balance, referring to the topic of this post about the oppostion leaders' statement, why didn’t you quote this bit from the newspaper articles:
While United National Congress Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has dismissed the proposal as a “PR gimmick,” two former police commissioners have expressed support for the move.

(Note the UNC routinely opposes most anti-crime legislation hoping that the resulting unpopularity of a Government that can’t eradicate crime will thrust them in to power.)

Since you are looking for negative things to post about the ‘reality’ of life in TnT, in just the last few days, what happened to the UNC-involved, headline-grabbing developments you carefully avoided?
E.g. a senior member of her own political party accuses the opposition leader of race-baiting:
Ragbir: Kamla engaging in racial fearmongering

Or yet again one of her most senior members is before the courts for transactions involving hundreds of millions, having tried all the delaying tactics as far as the privy council. (One of several opposition members before the courts on corruption charges):
Moonilal faces fresh allegations in EMBD lawsuit

I could cite so many more, but it is enough to lay bare your obvious agenda on this board in relation to things going on in Trinidad and Tobago. twisted

Hmm, ruffled some feathers I see..
The truth can really be a hard pill to swallow eh!smile

The 'idiot' comment is rich. It is very consistent with typical UNC troll commenting behaviour. Anyone who is perceived as being associated with the afro-branded PNM is immediately labeled as having lesser intelligence. No doubt a nod to the racial stereotyping and hindu caste system that still resides in the thinking of some in that party.

I'm thinking that as a suffix to some of your Trini-related posts you should add.. "The preceding was a paid UNC political statement"
If you need help with this I'll gladly assist! lol
