Prelude to Phagwa

One of the legacies of the late Sat Maharaj, former Secretary General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (SDMS), was the revival of Chowtaal singing in SDMS schools as part of the Baal Vikaas competition.

This year, students from 43 primary schools took part in the 40th edition of the annual Chowtaal Sammelan. There were also special guest appearances by students from five colleges last Sunday at the SDMS headquarters in St Augustine.

Chowtaal is an integral part of Phagwa, a colourful celebration of the beginning of the Indian spring and the Hindu New Year, which takes place tomorrow.

Address the topic at hand

What makes you allegedly reject all religion and spirituality and culture but leads to this apparent soft spot or dare I say, blind spot?

Brought by indentured labourers in the 19th century, Phagwa has metamorphosed into a Trinidadian celebration of identity and resilience. It transcends religion, drawing Hindus and non-Hindus into its embrace. From Holika Dahan’s solemn flames to chowtaal’s lively renditions, it’s a pillar of Indo-Trinidadian heritage, a bridge between cane-field struggles and today’s vibrant present.

So posting T&T community celebration of spring/new year with colours makes one a part of a religion/target?

I have posted numerous threads on the concepts of numerous religions; does this classify me as having a blind spot?

So being agnostic , I am not allowed to comment....ok ah gats ya...

On this day, the lights of Divali also signify a time of inner illumination. Divali is also associated with the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

The day after Divali is celebrated as Gowardhan Puja. Cows and bullocks are decorated, and offered special feed. It is a thanksgiving to them by the farming class for their support in their work. Many offer prayers to Vishvakarma on this day.

Two days after Divali Bhai Dooj is celebrated. Again, this is a festival dedicated to brothers, where sisters apply tilak on the brother’s forehead and wish them good health and long life. It was on this day that Ram was formally declared the king of Ayodhya.

Oh, your Hindu now?shock

Hindu brothers traditionally honor their sisters during Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi), a festival celebrating the bond of protection and love between siblings, which usually falls in August, on the full moon in the Hindu lunar month of Shravana.
