(Trinidad Guardian) Stuart Young has taken the oath of office to become this country’s 8th Prime Minister.

The ceremony took place at the Office of the President, St Anns.

Young replaces Dr Keith Rowley who officially resigned from the post yesterday after spending two terms as head of the Government.

T&T’s trade relationship with Canada has been marked by both potential and underutilisation. According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity, in 2023, exports to Canada totalled $141 million, comprising products such as acyclic alcohol derivatives ($70.8 million), nitrogenous fertilisers ($41.2 million), and petroleum gas ($11.5 million).

However, exports have declined by 11.3% annually over the past five years. Meanwhile, Canada’s exports to Trinidad and Tobago stood at $199 million, largely driven by iron ore, wheat, and dried legumes.
