Not many big ideas à la the Manley era! Though I was a little boy then, today, I am still inspired!

Mark doesn't know how to win friends and influence people!

In politics, sometimes, you have to over-promise, especially in opposition!

This was his big moment before the general election - he didn't shine as I had hoped!

For Example - I would have gone big on Agricultural Cooperatives at the district level!

A significant announcement on technology via an international partnership!

Involving an African country in some significant project would also be part of my announcement, among others!

A slogan or theme to carry my agenda would also be in play since this is an election year!

A major announcement on Education, Security, Health, Agriculture, and Technology should have been made, with shadow ministers discussing these in greater detail in the sectoral debate!

My approach would be a bottom-up approach through districts, divisions, and parishes for development!

Good critique/suggestions.

Now over to Chrissy to counter with exactly why she declared it his best speech.

No big ideas? Really? A wide ranging policy speech which included infusing Marcus Garvey's philosophy into education at all levels, creating a Fisability Fund and to provide support is not major? Linking UWI/UTECH engineering graduates with NWA to ensure oversight and proper infrastructure work is not major? Looking to double irrigation for arable land. An ACTUAL policy and support framework for the creative industries-ALL 20+ of them, providing 500million for under 35s to be able to pay for deposits, moratorium of 3mths before public sector startsxpaying mortgages, returning the special interest rate for public sector workers at NHT. Extending the period of time before ppl start paying back student loans, the proposal for the Public Defender to be able to take matters to court. Creation of Human Rights Office to report on how the rights of Jamaicans are upheld or not. Looking to expand beyond current govt regularising those who currently steal electricity. Put in system toward social transformation focusing on how we treat each other. Lóoking to removes taxes for laptops for teachers and provide them with free Internet. Committing to a participatory Constitutional Reform process to discuss issues ppl want discussed-electing a President, fixed dates, how incorporate diaspora, Rastafari, Maroon and indigenous into the Constitutional arrangements. Expanding solar etc

Did not hear or read speech. I had some ideas to mobilize the people and
hope he addressed them or some of them. But from what I am observing,Mark does not appear to me to
be the Leader that will inspire the people and make the country better.
Hope I am wrong as from my vantage point in the safety of Trump's carnage, I see Holdness getting
a 3rd Term easily.cry

True, but nothing shocking for the patient - those are typical Laborite playbook ideas!

Not saying they are bad, but I was looking for more innovative and creative ideas - he can afford to 'over-promise' since he's in opposition!

For example, in terms of electricity - solar should be the thinking for the average Jamaican! In poor rural villages in Kenya, that's the take!

Government Initiatives:
The Barbados National Energy Policy (BNEP) 2019-2030 aims to transition the country to a 100% renewable energy and carbon-neutral economy by 2030, with solar energy playing a key role.

In every rural community with a school, I would think of a program for forward and backward integration by facilitating some form of entrepreneurship - under a coined name!

Copy best practices from neighboring countries!

Anyway, I guess, it's easy to pontificate when one is not on the ground!

None of those is remotely Labourite. Labourites STEAL ideas. They don't have them. Restoring housing trust interest rayes is restoring to PJ's time. Today you will hear the PM claim the ideas are reckless, cost two much and claim they are already doing.some though no one can see. As if Labourites have ever had an original thought besides how to get as much money for the rich as they can.

Andrew? Boy wasn't paying attention. I expected claims about recklessness blah blah. Never did I think he would go back to the 70s. And what is with them and the one off payments. Yes I know its attempted vote buying but how do one off payments help anybody.

You cannot do politics in Jamaica without antics smile

“This reminds me of the classic tale of what we call in Jamaica the “wutliss” father who causes the mother so much pain, and then abandons the child, but when the child grows up to be successful, out of the blue they turn up to claim paternity and associate with the success.

The leader of the opposition is a man of convenience, flip flopping between prudence and popularity when it suits him. One minute he disowns the child of fiscal discipline and then the next he claims the child of fiscal discipline. The mother remembers the pain of Finsac and the high interest rate policy, the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich, and she knows that she cannot trust this “wutliss” man, so she did the DNA test, and the results are in, when it comes to 15 year-old Fiscal Discipline, PNP you are NOT the father,” Holness stated to laughter and desk banging from Government members.

“Yes, your name was called, but it is another Golding that is the father,” he added, a reference that former Prime Minister Bruce Golding was responsible for setting Jamaica on the road to fiscal discipline."

HERE

Hopefully, Crawford gets to take a shot at this!
