Great Response

The Supreme Court has granted an injunction blocking the Portmore parish law from taking effect. Chief Justice Bryan Sykes granted the orders on Thursday.
The Opposition People's National Party claims the law is unconstitutional. The injunction will run until March 28 when the parties return to court.

The two orders granted by the court:
1. An order prohibiting the second respondent or any minister in the Government of Jamaica, until further order of the court, from appointing a day for the coming into operation of the Counties and Parishes (Amendment) Act 2025

2. Alternatively, in the event that such a day shall have been appointed before an order is made, an order that until further order of the court, the 2025 Act is to be treated by all persons and for all purposes as not being in operation.

Given the magnitude of this proposal, wouldn’t the appropriate course of action be to hold a referendum on the matter so the people of Jamaica writ large would have an opportunity to weigh in?

And a City it was meant to be and I think even Gazetted in 1965 by Edward Seaga whose
idea it was as The Welfare and Development Minister under Sangster.
He even designated it the Sunshine City and second City as sister to Kingston.
Nowhere was any plan to chop off piece of St. Catherine to create a Parish.

I worked in the Welfare Ministry on leaving College in 1964 and saw plans for Development and
even a Mock up at the Hanover Street Office when I would visit.
It was all part of greater development that involved Waterfront developments I n Kingston,Ocho Rios
and Montego Bay which all came on stream.
Portmore began with Edgewater and would spread to what is now Greater Portmore and included was a railyway link
from that portion to connect the then line that connected Spanish Town to Kingston with the connection
being made at Gregory Park station at Caymanas Park Racetrack to afford commuters easy access and reach to
Kingston. There was no talk either of toll roads then.
It was one big reason why no mention was ever made of reviving City Status of Spanish Town, the once capital of
the Country. Portmore was supposed to be a shining modern City , nothing more, nothing less.
A revival of the old railway link to Kingston and the proposed plans by Seaga would be a masterpiece of development
and cost effectiveness to the people living in Portmore at this time.
I would have thought that the Opposition leader would have addressed this and other matters in his recent presentation.
How embarrassing it would be had he spoke to that and even hint at naming that City, Seaga City.
At least it would be great political theatre. But it would be more appropriate than naming a Highway for Seaga.
Jamaica, neither party really ready to convert the coal that is Jamaica into the shining diamond it is supposed to be,
As a matter a fact, the opposition leader Mark should have addressed the Republican status being pursued by
dissing the British High Court as well as the Caricom Court and moot the establishment of Jamaica's Own Highest Court.
That's what a truly Independent Country should be, controlling its Constitution and Justice System for its own people.
But who am I...I left that little rock a long time and I ain't going back ..so they can enjoy whatever they choose to.
The inmates have long taken over even as they parade the Unique Flag with a now acceptable WHITE hoist. lollol
